PHLster Fightworthy TDI Sheath Update

Kydex guru PHLster makes a sheath for the Ka-Bar TDI that is very popular. Demand for the sheath has outpaced his ability to produce them since their introduction. PHLster has been working to streamline production of the sheath in an effort to increase the rate at which they can be created. The good news is that they have succeeded.

The original sheath was foam pressed and had a curved shape to it that made it hand specific. The new version is now vacuum formed and has a flat shape that makes it ambidextrous and more user configurable. the result of these changes is a sheath that has the same level of quality but can be produced more easily. Many users are also reporting that the new flat shape is actually more comfortable too.

MSM Shear Pouch Plus

The Monkey has some good ideas. The new MSM Shear Pouch Plus takes a pretty standard shear pouch and adds the useful functionality of a tourniquet holder. This allows the user to carry two items that often do not fit inside smaller IFAKs in a compact and efficient manner (takes up just 1 column of PALS webbing).

Elzetta Red Drop-In Flood Lens

Elzetta continues to build the suite of accessories available for their modular flashlights. The newest is a red version of their drop-in flood lens. This new version diffuses the light over a wide area and helps to preserve your dark adjusted vision. I suspect this would work especially well with the high/low tail cap to provide a low output, long runtime lighting option that preserves dark adjusted vision.

Ben’s Backwoods Bandanet Survival Bandana

There are a lot of “survival” bandanas on the market. Most of them are basically just a bandana with questionable survival information printed on them. The Bandanet Survival Bandana from Ben’s Backwoods actually has a few useful tricks up its sleeve.

On one side, it looks like a normal good quality cotton bandana. When you turn it over you see a piece of bug netting sewn into the bandana. The net is attached in such a way that turning it inside out turns the Bandanet into a wearable bug net.

The Bandanet can still be used is all the same ways you might use a bandana like as a towel, a head covering, a pre-filter for water, etc. The net also makes it useful as a sack that can be useful for gathering tinder or edibles.

I always carry a bandana anyway so something like this, that serves multiple purposes, could easily find a home in my kit. Check out the Ben’s Backwoods Bandanet Survival Bandana.

LAG Tactical Holsters for the Recover 1911 Grip and Rail

I recently covered the release of the Recover Tactical Recover Grip and Rail for the 1911. It used to be that when something like this came to the market, you had to sort of sit back and wait to see if holster makers would support it. That process happens much faster now with the proliferation of Kydex benders around the country and the internet to keep everyone in the loop.

LAG Tactical has already stepped up to offer holsters for the Recover Grip and Rail. I have been using one of their holsters for quite a while now and I am very pleased with it. I think it is pretty cool how quickly the gun world moves these days.
