Smith & Bradley Sans-13 Evolution

The Smith & Bradley Sans-13 is about to get a serious make over. The dynamic watch duo of Smith & Bradley have designed a slick new face that looks striking and takes the Sans-13’s lume game to a new level.

The original Sans-14 had great lume. Rather than a coating like most watches, S&B used small lume tubes as markers. The new watch also eschews lume coatings for the markers. Instead, the face is actually a sandwich design where the markers are cut out, allowing an entire plate of lume material to show through. Even the hands have a plate of the material installed on them rather than a coating. The detail in the small numeral marker cutouts looks incredible.

There will be more details coming soon (movement, pricing, availability, etc.) but S&B is claiming this will be the best watch in its price range. Check out Smith & Bradley.

New Gen2 Skeleton Universal Magazine Carrier from PHLster

PHLster‘s new IWB Magazine Carrier, the Gen2 Skeleton Universal Magazine Carrier, is kind of awesome. It’s just a magazine carrier but it also represents some interesting innovation which is what we have come to expect from PHLster. Kydex benders like John Hauptman (PHLster head honcho) and Anrew Henry at Henry Holsters don’t seem to be content with just making good products. They trying to change the way good products are made.

Here is the bottom line, the new Gen2 Skeleton Universal Magazine Carrier is half the price of the PHLster’s old IWB Magazine Carrier. On top of that, it has less parts that can potentially fail, is more compact, and easily user serviceable. This was accomplished by completely changing the way Kydex products are generally made.

Rather than using a variety rivets and Chicago screws to hold the materials together, the new Gen2 Skeleton Universal Magazine Carrier is held together by a single piece of user replaceable shock cord. The two independently molded halves of the carrier have dimples that index them together and prevent excess movement. This greatly simplifies the production of the piece, reduces the amount of hardware necessary, and reduces the overall size of the carrier – all of which have down stream benefits for the end user.

Black Arch Holster Protos-M

Black Arch (formerly SHTF Gear), just took the wraps off their newest holster – the Protos-M. This is an all-new modular holster design but as you might guess from the name, it shares some lineage with the Black Arch Protos holster in that is also features their patent pended 3/4 Hybrid system. This means that the kydex fully encloses the trigger guard on both sides to give the positive click-in and click-out retention you like about kydex with the comfort of a leather backed hybrid.

From Black Arch:

Logan, UT – June 28, 2016 – Black Arch, a manufacturer of hybrid holsters, announced today the release of its latest product, the Protos-M. Designed to be completely modular, this holster is intended to meet the needs of those who carry daily, train hard, and compete to win.

The Protos-M is able to adapt to any mode of carry (IWB, OWB, and AIWB) by using one of three interchangeable backers. This means that you can carry your gun in different positions and levels of concealment with a single holster. The Protos-M uses their patent-pending ¾ Hybrid system, which means that you will experience the exact same draw no matter which backer you use (note: each backer is custom designed and only compatible with a single model of gun).

More than just a modular holster, the Protos-M is engineered for all-day carry and built to last. Precision-molded kydex, hand-finished leather, and stainless steel components all come together in this new design to create the highest quality holster possible. Completely redesigned backers provide a smaller footprint and make these holsters incredibly concealable and comfortable.

The Protos-M will retail for $94.95 with one backer included and is currently available for pre-order online at blackarchholsters.com. Individual backers will be available for $34.95. The complete Protos-M system box set will retail for $209.95, including one shell, three backers, extra hardware, and accessories.  Pre-orders will begin shipping Friday  July 8th. All Black Arch holsters include free shipping and a lead time of only 2-4 business days.

Mini Kit MK-7 Range Kit

I am really, really good at getting all the way to the range and then realizing I forgot something. That is why I have been using a Triple Seven Gear Mini Kit MK-7 as a range organizer since they were first released.

You can read my previous review on the Mini Kit MK-7 if you are unfamiliar with it but basically, it is an organizer for small items like medical supplies, EDC items, or range tools in this case. It is built to be compact enough to go in a cargo pocket or backpack and durable enough to stand up to daily use.

I have an excellent I-Shot range bag (rest in peace I-Shot) that can carry a ton of stuff but lacks organization for small items. I actually prefer bags that way because a large empty space is more versatile than bunch of smaller spaces. The large space lets me fit larger items or simply drop in an organizer to contain small items. That is where my Mini Kit MK-7 range kit comes in.

The kit remains loaded, full-time, with the tools that I am likely to need on the range and I can add other specific tools as needed. My kit consists of a Multitasker tool, a Combat Optic Tool, Sharpies, a pen, a notepad, bits for the Multitasker, a Torx wrench in a size found commonly on optic mounts, a laser bore sighing tool, and a Leatherman Micra.

If it is a quick range trip, I can just grab the Mini Kit itself. If I need the ability to carry more gear, I just drop the Mini Kit into a larger bag with my other gear. Any bag that I drop the Mini Kit into becomes a range bag.

I use these Mini Kit MK-7s a lot of different ways but this range kit is my favorite.
