CTI Ultimate Titanium EDC Belt

The belt buckle whisperers at Carbon Tactics, creators of the Quicky Buckle, are at it again. They just launched their latest belt and buckle on Kickstarter – the Ultimate Titanium EDC Belt.

The new belt features a simple (I mean that as a compliment) titanium “buckle” and several 1.5″ wide webbing options including single and double layers of webbing, or a single layer of Biothane. The variety of options make this belt suitable for tasks as simple as holding up your pants and as crucial as supporting the weight of a handgun.

I have been wearing an Ultimate Titanium EDC Belt with the Double Duty option for the last 2 weeks. It has been comfortable, easy to don and doff, the buckle bites on the webbing well so that it holds its adjustment, and its double layers of webbing with latitudinal stitching is very rigid for supporting a holster. I have also found that there are at least two ways of threading the tail through the buckle depending on your preference (the Kickstarter page shows the intended way).

This belt is made in the USA and costs less than most EDC/CCW targeted belts thanks to it’s simple design. Based on my limited experience, I would say it is definitely worth a look. Check out the Carbon Tactics Ultimate Titanium EDC Belt on Kickstarter.

Elzetta on Weapon Mounted Lights

When Dave from Elzetta talks weapon lights and light mounts, you might expect him to spend several minutes talking up the light mounts and mountable lights that his company produces. He does cover those products but the entire discussion in the video below is couched in terms of safety (Cooper’s 4 Rules #2 and #4) and how various configurations can be beneficial to the shooter. The end result is that this video is not just a marketing tool but it is actually a very effective basic weapon light primer.

CDM Gear Mossberg Safety Update

You may remember our previous mention of the promising extended Mossberg safety that CDM Gear was developing. They have made major progress in the development of that safety since it was last featured on these pages.

We now know that it will retail for $19.95 which makes it competitive with other upgraded Mossberg safeties. We also know that the first batch has been anodized and is currently being tested by CDM Gear. These should be available at retail shortly.

These safeties are noteworthy for its shape that may allow it to be operated without breaking your shooting grip for some shooters. It also presents a large target for those who sweep the safety on and off with their finger tips much like an AK selector.  It is both wider than the factory safety switch and it extends back toward the buttstock. It’s shape actually moves the switch back toward the shooter’s weapon-side hand by about one inch. The extra length and the extra width in strategic places, should make it much easier to reach.

Keep an eye on CDMGear.com for details.

TOPS Knives Brakimo – Now Available

Here is some free advice if you are shopping for a knife… If Joe Flowers designed it and TOPS Knives produced it, you can’t go wrong. Joe has had a hand in several great TOPS knives including the Shango series, the Machete .230, and the Lite Trekker. The Brakimo is now joining that list.

The Brakimo is a result of the collaboration between Bushcraft Global (Joe’s adventure/survival school) and TOPS Knives. This knife is designed to be the flagship knife for the school. It is meant to serve as a companion to a machete in the jungle or a good all around field knife where ever you find yourself. The Brakimo has already been vetted in the Amazon jungle on previous Bushcraft Global trips.

From TOPS Knives:

It has a fairly wide blade profile combined with TOPS’ modified Scandi grind that gives it great cutting and splitting power. The tip narrows dramatically to make it useful for drilling holes for bow-drill fires, blow gun mouth pieces, traps, etc. The simple design is perfect for many different uses. Made with 1095 high carbon steel, it’s easy to maintain the edge while out in the field. We found through testing on the 2015 Bushcraft Global trip that by keeping it dry whenever possible, rust was not an issue.

The word Brakimo comes from the Matis language (which is unwritten as far as we are aware). The Matis is a tribe found in Brazil that was uncontacted by the modern world until 1975-1976. The tribe has a unique way of life that would challenge the survival skills of any survival expert. If you’re lucky enough to participate in a Bushcraft Global adventure, odds are that you’ll get to meet one of these extraordinary people and learn a few of the skills they use to survive daily life in the jungle.

See the specs below for more details. Check out the Brakimo at TOPS Knives.
