Surefire released a video to highlight their new products for 2014 and there are several interesting additions. Night vision owners will be happy to see all the new IR options. It is nice to see the M600P Surefire Scout Fury will become a catalog item. The new railed hand guards look interesting and the SL07 Dual Purpose Scout Light Switch seems like it has been a long time coming. The VOC (Variable Output Control) Tailcap also has my attention.

Appalachian Training LTC Level IV Stand Alone Plates and EOC Combo
If you are looking for a deal on armor plates, Appalachian Training has you covered (that’s a little armor humor for you). They are selling the LTC Level IV Stand Alone Plates for just $149.95 each or as part of a very slick combo which saves you even more money.
The LTC Level IV Stand Alone Plate is a single curve, 10″ x 12″, shooters cut plate. They are .73″ thick and weigh 8.25 pounds each.
Appalachian Training has this to say about the plates:
This rig is fully capable for the occasional class, bail-out or truck rig, or any contingency that will require a limited use. While this is US made and quality, the design is not one that we would recommend for constant hard-use (LE, PMC, .mil). In our experience this design is a perfect balance for the US citizen that need an armor solution, but may not require the full features of a LWPC, LPAAC, or our APC.
This plate is also available as part of a combo that includes 2 plates, a Mission Spec EOC Carrier, and shoulder pads.
Kino XL Barrels
The pickings are pretty slim when it comes to “dissipator” style AR-15 uppers. However, I recently told you that Designated Hitter, under the direction of Kino Davis, would be selling their own dissipator uppers called the Kino XL. The uppers are not yet available but the barrels are!
Designated Hitter is selling two versions of the Kino XL barrel: a standard 4150 CMV version and a cold hammer forged version. Both feature:
- 5.56 chamber
- M4 feed ramps
- 1 in 7″ twist
- Manganese Phosphate finish (including under the FSB and gas block)
- Mid-length gas system
- 17-4PH stainless steel gas block
- “F” marked front sight base
- Fixed hand guard cap (can be removed from your order if you plan to use a free float rail on your build)
If you want a dissipator style AR-15, these are the best barrels you can put your hands on. Check out the Kino XL barrels from Designated Hitter.
SHOT Show E&E Kit from SerePick
Oh no! You’re pinned down by a talkative product rep who is bending your ear about how awesome the Taurus Judge is. Its time to put your SHOT Show E&E plan into action and this SHOT Show exclusive, custom kit from SerePick just might help (if the Taurus rep has physically restrained you in some way which I doubt they would, but still… you never know).
This kit will only be available at the SHOT Show and you are going to have to track down Matt at SerePick to get one. They will cost $50 or you can potentially barter for them (I suggest good bourbon or maybe comfortable walking shoes, those would be worth a mint on the show floor).
The kit consists of a compact plastic case and several other useful items…
- Bogota Nano Entry Toolset
- Quick Stick X2
- EZ Decoder X2
- Polymer Universal Handcuff Key X2
- Steel Split Pawl Handcuff Shim X2
- Glue Dots X2
You will have to add your own pocket change because the dime in the photo is just there for scale. This kit is tiny.
