Gunstruction for iOS

Gunstruction is now available for iOS devices! I have been playing with the beta release for some time now and it is a lot of fun and very useful.

The iOS app is a lot like the website but the touch interface makes it even easier to move around and build exactly what you want. It may seem like it is just a fun app (and it is fun) but it is actually a powerful tool for planning an AR-15 build. I recently wrote an article about how truly lightweight AR-15 builds take planning and the great thing about Gunstruction is that the weight of each component is included. It is probably the most complete repository or weight data available.

New Training Plates from Appalachian Training

Appalachian Training is the go to place for armor so it should come as no surprise that they just introduced what may be the best non-ballistic training plates that you can easily purchase. I say that it may be the best for one reason – weight.

AT-TNGPLATE-2

These new plates are made from dense plastic. They replicate the shape, size, and curvature of a typical SAPI plate. Most importantly, they also replicate the weight of a standard plate. These weigh in at 6.5 pounds each which is heavier than most training plates on the market and very close to the weight of actual plates.

The new training plates are available in medium and large sizes. They are sold in pairs. Check them out at Appalachian Training.

Strike Industries Ambush Sling Loop

I first mentioned the prototype for what would become the Ambush Sling Loop back in October of last year. I thought it was very notable for its extremely low profile design. Since it was just a prototype picture, I hoped it would 1) go into production and 2) retain the same low profile design when if it finally did make it to production. I have good news on both counts.

SI Ambush Sling Loop

The Ambush Sling Loop is now available from Strike Industries. It is extremely low profile. It is low profile enough to fit easily under extended optic mounts like those from ADM and LaRue Tactical. It is so low profile in fact that no part of it sits higher than any part of the rail it mounts on! It is made from solid steel but is still relatively light weight thanks to it’s skelotonized design. This sing mount provides both a sling loop and a QD sling swivel socket.

20$Bandit Mini Medic Kit

Nearly every mention of the 20$Bandit Mini Kit (MK-7) that I have seen makes mention of the fact that it would make a great first aid kit organizer. It makes perfect sense that 20$Bandit is releasing med kit that is purpose built for use with the Mini Kit.

The 20$Bandit Mini Medic Kit is designed to fit perfectly into the clear, vinyl pouch in the Mini Kit and contains a few essentials:

(4) Personal Antimicrobial Wipes (PAWS)
(1) Roll cloth Adhesive Tape .25″
(2) BURN JEL (single use 3.5 g)
(2) Mole Skin (Kidney)
(1) Oval Eye Pad
(1) Wound Closure Strips (modern day butterfly bandage)
(10) Sheer Strip (1″ x 3″)
(4) 3″ x 3″Sterile gauze pads
(5) Knuckle bandages
(2) Hydrocortisone 1% Cream (1.5 g)
(2) Triple Antibiotic Ointment (.9 g)
(1) Mylar Space Blanket

It should be noted that this is more of an EDC boo-boo kit than a gunshot wound treatment kit so it is not a replacement for a proper IFAK (which anyone who carries a gun should be carrying).
