Gunstruction December User’s Choice Builds

December has come and gone and January is here. That can only mean one thing… It’s time for new User’s Choice Builds from Gunstruction.

Gunstruction’s User’s Choice Builds are comprised of the most popular parts from each category in their virtual AR building software. These builds reflect the parts that Gunstruction users selected most frequently for their virtual builds which makes it a interesting window into consumer trends… and there is always something interesting about these builds.

The most interesting thing in the December AR-15 User’s Choice Build is the inclusion of an EOTech sight in spite of their very public issues. It is also noteworthy that these builds always feature a Magpul grip.

The December AR308 User’s Choice Build continues the trend of treating the rifle as a semi-auto precision tool rather than a more general purpose battle rifle.

Free Resource: Greg Ellifritz’s Weekend Knowledge Dump

Greg Ellifritz’s Active Response Training Blog is absolutely packed with great content pertaining to the defensive use of firearms and well worth reading. However, the real gem of his blog are his Weekend Knowledge Dumps. In them, he shares several articles that he found noteworthy from the previous week. The topics range from defensive firearm use, to medical and first aid topics, to preparedness, and even wellness.

Much of the value of the Weekend Knowledge Dumps comes not only from the articles themselves but Greg’s short commentary on each one. I always learn something and I always feel a little bit like I have cheated my way into knowledge. These knowledge dumps are like a “life hack”. Greg does the leg work. I gain the knowledge.

I highly recommend that you subscribe to the Active Response Training Blog or the very least, drop in weekly to check out the latest Weekend Knowledge Dump.

Executive Action on Guns

I strongly recommend that you read through the Fact Sheet provided at WhiteHouse.gov in advance of the release of the President’s Executive Orders this morning. Much of the attention given these actions by gun owners has been centered on the ATF’s final ruling on ATF-41P which is set to change the way people access NFA items especially as it pertains to trusts and CLEO signoff. The Prince Law blog has one of the best synopses I’ve read on the ruling.

The breadth and width of these actions is still being parsed and it will likely remain that way for a long time. In true federal government fashion, they are steeped in ambiguity and seemingly purposefully designed to annoy more than actually deter.

Echo Nine Three Mk65 Light Mount

Echo Nine Three’s new Mk65 Light Mount is designed to cantilever a weapon light forward and offset it to the hand guard when used in conjunction with AMD-65 ventilated hand guards or Magpul’s M-LOK Hand Guards. If you are willing to drill two small holes, it can also be fit to most AK hand guards.

E93 MK65 Info

The machined aluminum Mk65 has a hard anodized finish. It mounts view two small screws and is completely ambidextrous by virtue of its design. It features a 3 slot picatinny rail for attaching various lights like Surefire X300s, Scout series lights, and many others.

E93 MK65 Chicken Choke

Many AK variants have short hand guards that can become cramped for space when a light is mounted. Weapon light placement on such short hand guards is often less than optimal unless you have a way to push the light forward and offset it slightly. This mount will allow AK users to place the light in a way that falls more naturally under their weak hand thumb. E93 MK65 with M600 Scout

For instance, the X300 mounted on the WASR below can be activated but not without shifting my typical grip. It is also taking up space that might otherwise be used to grip the rifle. The Mk65 would solve this problem by making the light easier to activate and restoring space on the hand guard. It looks like I will need to purchase one to try.
