Desert Tech MDR Update

for_item_2241

Desert Tech’s MDR is one of the most hotly anticipated rifles on the market. However, like most new firearm designs, this bullpup has seen some delays in coming to market. Here is the latest update from Desert Tech:

November 1, 2016
Dear Valued Customers,

The MDR is in longevity testing and most of the MDR parts have already been transitioned into production. We expect all parts to be in production within the next few weeks. Our goal was to get the first batch of MDR’s completed in December but a number of small unexpected delays have pushed it into January. The production ramp-up is expected to be at full capacity by March 2017. This is the most current information we have and we will alert everyone of any changes. We will also try to share more insight with you on the MDR’s performance during November. We truly appreciate everyone’s patience and support.

Sincerely
Nicholas Young

Faxon Firearms 18″ GUNNER Profile AR-15 Barrel

Faxon Firearms’ GUNNER Profile AR-15 barrels are very interesting barrels across all the lengths that they offer but they are especially interesting in the 18″ and 20″ lengths. This profile is a sort of hybrid between government profile and a pencil/lightweight profile – or you can think of them as a lightweight version of the SOCOM profile. Basically, they have a government profile behind the gas block and a lightweight profile in front of the gas block.

All of that means that they feel very light because of the weight distribution but have a bit more “meat” where it counts. I have recently handled two rifles built with the 18″ barrel that almost messed with your mind. They handled more like a 16″ lightweight or medium contour barreled AR-15 than an 18″ rifle.

These GUNNER Profile barrels open up the possibility of relatively lightweight and fast handling AR-15 builds that handle like a shorter carbine but reap the benefits of increased velocity and smoother cycling associated with rifle gas, 18″/20″ barrels.

The 18″ GUNNER Profile Barrel is in stock right now and on sale. Check them out at FaxonFirearms.com.

The Best Makarov Holster Story You’ll Read All Day

I received an East German Makarov from my grandfather several years ago. This particular Makarov is not in perfect condition but it is very finely made and shoots very well… well enough that I have always wanted to be able to carry it. The problem was that 99 out of 100 Makarov holsters on the market are complete garbage. Search a popular auction sight for “makarov holster” if you don’t believe me.

For a period of about 4 years, I asked various kydex benders if they had a Makarov mold in their inventory that they could use to produce a holster for me. They all politely declined until I came across Geno at Black Rhino Concealment (BRC). I asked him and he said something to the effect of, “Say no more, fam” (or probably something more professional than that).

Geno and the rest of the BRC crew didn’t have an East German Makarov to mold the holster to so he went above and beyond. He actually started contacting people at the local range that he frequents until he tracked down an East German Mak which he used to produce one of their TCS holsters complete with their well-known 90/10 molding style. On top of that, he whipped up a magazine carrier to send with it as a surprise.

The holster is shown in the image above. You can see, written in paint pen, “BRC GW JTT.” The BRC stands for Black Rhino Concealment. The GW is Geno’s initials. The JTT is for Jerking the Trigger. How cool is that?

All of this happened before BRC was an advertising partner on Jerking the Trigger. Geno and the BRC crew basically just did this to help a guy out. When I say that JTT has great advertising partners, I mean it.
