S.O. Tech ESP

It’s a pouch. It’s a pack. It’s the S.O. Tech Expanding SERE Pack (ESP).

In pouch form, the S.O. Tech ESP docks to any MOLLE compatible platform. If the need to carry additional items arises, it zips open to convert into a back pack. The pouch has 2 zippered compartments that remain useable even when the pack is deployed. These pouches could be filled with small survival and first aid items that would be accessible whether the bag was in pouch or pack configuration.

S.O. Tech tells me that the ESP has been in development for around 4 years and it should be available soon. The picture shown, may not represent the production model. Check out SpecOpsTech.com.

If Our Politicians Didn’t Learn About Firearms from Hollywood…

If our policy makers didn’t learn everything that they think they know about firearms from watching TV and movies, they might realize…

That sound suppressors should be treated as a safety device and their ownership should be encouraged.
That collapsible stocks and pistol grips should be seen as an accessibility aid that make firearms safer and more useable for a wider range of people like women, children, and those with disabilities.
That face to face firearm sales aren’t seedy back alley deals that must be done away with but rather lawful transactions between citizens.
That many police officers and military members are not firearm experts.
That shotguns are more difficult to shoot (especially under stress) than an AR-15. Yes, you do have to aim them.
That shooting any firearm into the air is a terrible idea and that shooting through your front door is even worse.
That it almost certainly takes more than shot to incapacitate someone and thus stop the threat they are posing to you. In fact, it might take 10 or more shots.
That guns generally don’t just go off on their own.
That gunfights aren’t fair and don’t have any set of rules, procedures, or decorum.
That children are safer when they are taught to handle firearms safely and to value human life.
That the police aren’t always just around the corner.
That hollow points actually make everyone safer (except the dirt bag who is being shot).
That full automatic fire is actually a liability in most cases.
That the staggering majority of firearm owners are good people.
That the idea tackling an attacker who is reloading isn’t as easy as it sounds.
That folding stocks are really only useful for storing your gun.
That shooting from the hip doesn’t work nearly as well as they think.

Perhaps most importantly, if our representatives would stop getting their firearm information from the TV and movies, Congresswomen Carolyn McCarthy might finally learn what a barrel shroud is.

ESEE Passport Case

One of the things that makes ESEE great is that fact that they aren’t really a gear company. They sell gear to support their love of survival training and adventure travel. Magpul “Boulder Airlift”

Magpul has released details of the plan to put full capacity PMAGs in the hands of Coloradans that we mentioned yesterday. They are calling it “Boulder Airlift” and here are the details:

Magpul is proud to announce the “Boulder Airlift”, our program to make sure that responsible Colorado citizens have the opportunity to own standard capacity PMAGs prior to the potential implementation of pending legislation that would infringe on their Second Amendment Rights. The program will be open to all responsible CO residents, (with both billing and shipping addresses inside CO) and provide access to a limited quantity of PMAGs. Remember to contact members of the Senate and the Governor prior to ordering and urge them to oppose HB 1224.

Similar to the Berlin Airlift, the Boulder Airlift will bring much needed supplies to freedom-loving residents trapped inside occupied territory. While we plan to initially use FedEx or UPS instead of aerial delivery, we figure that $5 flat rate shipping will make up for any loss of “style points.”

The increases we have made and continue to make in production capacity will allow us to open this program with very minimal impact on the number of PMAGs we are shipping to our dealers and distributors out of the state. We are also aware that Colorado is not the only state with existing or pending magazine capacity restrictions; we are working on programs for other affected states as well.

Jerry Miculek Practical Rifle DVD from Brownells

Thanks to the development of action shooting sports around the country, the tactical world is borrowing gear and techniques from the competition world (and vice versa) more than ever. This is especially true when it comes to practical rifle competition. It is easy to see why this symbiosis is happening. I dare you to watch this preview for the Jerry Miculek Practical Rifle DVD from Brownells and tell me he can’t teach even the most serious shooters something about driving a carbine between targets, shooting on the move, shooting positions, grip and stance, and the list goes on.

Do competition tactics translate perfectly to the realities of the battlefield, crime ridden inner city beat, or self defense situation inside your home? No, of course not, but the fundamentals of shooting quickly and accurately are on full display here and I suspect that anyone could learn a thing or two.
