Beez Combat Systems SVD Chest Rig

One of the best things about small companies is that they can create products that larger companies might not find worth while. When it comes to tactical gear, that means the a company like Beez Combat Systems can make really cool chest rigs for weapon systems that aren’t all that common and users of that weapon system benefit greatly.

I have mentioned the BCS SVD Chest Rig before but BCS just posted a great picture of the rig with Zastava M76 so this seems like a good time to mention it again. The SVD Chest Rig supports more weapon systems than just the SVD. It can also support the PSL and, of course, the M76.

Maybe it is just the fact that I have always wanted an SVD or similar rifle, but I think these rigs are really, really slick. Check out the SVD Chest Rig at BeezCombatSystems.com.

Mayflower R&C UW Chest Rig Gen IV Modification from Appalachian Training

I like seeing how people modify their gear because it gives me ideas for my own modifications. Mike from Appalachian Training recently posted a run down of a modification that he completed on his personal Mayflower R&C UW Chest Rig Gen IV. He turned one of the MBITR pouches into an IFAK pouch by adding a pull strap like the one found on the HSGI Bleeder Pouch.

Mayflower RC Mod

Here is what Mike had to say about the mod…

Was looking for a solution for a non-radio using shooter (me) since I no longer have a legitimate need for FM comms on a chest rig. I was using one of the MBITR pouches as a bleeder kit, but it was not optimal as it is difficult to get items out in an efficient manner (a big no-go). I made a run to the local stitch-meister and had him add this to it. Same concept as the HSGI bleeder pouch (in fact I cut the nylon strap out of an HSGI version). I would venture a guess that any 1.5 or 2in lightweight nylon with a means to grab hold would work (550 cord, any small plastic/nylon D ring). Could probably assemble something from the spare “pieces” all of us have in our gear closets, but I went for the quick win by cannibalizing the HSGI bleeder.

Since the MBITR pouches have a Velcro strip inside as well, a short strip of hook Velcro on the anchor end of the nylon strap would work too if you didn’t want/ need to sew it in “permanently”. Stay safe – M2

You don’t have to throw out or disqualify a piece of gear just because one of the features doesn’t quite meet your needs. You may be able to modify it.

GWACS Armory CAV-15 MKII Improvements

Several months ago I wrote a review of the GWACS Armory CAV-15 MKII AR-15 lower receiver. I was actually surprised by how much I liked it. They just work and don’t seem to have the durability issues of other polymer lowers on the market.

In the review, I mentioned a few fit and finish issues that I noticed: the finish on the take down pins was so bad that they looked used before I even installed them and there was plastic flashing left in the magazine well. GWACS Armory immediately acknowledged the issues and said they would work to correct them… and they did.

GWACS Armory Improved Pins

I have been able to check out a handful of their recent CAV-15 MKII lowers, including a new one that they sent me to show off the improvements. The fit and finish on the take down pins has been MUCH better. The new finish appears to be a deep, black oxide that has held up very well for me. Even after being installed and removed several times, the pins show little wear and look much better than the previous ones even when they were new.

They also addressed some of the plastic flashing issues. GWACS Armory is obviously taking a bit more time cleaning up the lowers by hand after the two halves are fused. The bottom of the grip and the magazine well are much cleaner on this newest example.

GWACS Armory Buffer

All CAV-15 MKII also now come with GWACS Armory’s new distinctive buffer. It is a standard weight buffer (H buffers will be available soon as an option) that is hard anodized bright red and branded with a GWACS Armory logo. This isn’t really a functional improvement (though this buffer is of a higher quality than the one that came in my previous lower) but it does add the type of detail that rounds out a lower and lets you know that the company behind it gives a rip.

It is great to see a company responding to customer feedback the way the GWACS Armory has with these new improvements to the CAV-15 MKII. Check out GWACSArmory.com. Use discount code “triggerjerk” to save 5% off your purchase.
