Weapon Outfitters 13.7″ TRACK Barrel

Weapon Outfitters has been a leading advocate for the 13.7″ AR-15 barrel for a long time now. Barrels of that length can be a great way to take advantage of the length of permanently attached muzzle devices like the B.E Meyers 249F or Noveske KX5. Weapon Outfitter’s latest 13.7″ barrel looks great on paper and it is worth a look for your next build.

The 13.7″ TRACK Barrel is a medium contour barrel that is constructed from 4150 Chrome Moly Vandium steel and Melonite processed for durability and corrosion resistance. It features a 1 in 7″ twist with a Wylde chamber. Wylde chambers are good to go with .223 or 5.56 spec ammo and can usually squeeze a bit more accuracy out of both. Correction: It is a 5.56 chamber.

These barrels use hybrid polygonal rifling by FJ Fedderson. Polygonal rifling usual give a bit more muzzle velocity due to a tighter gas seal and that tighter gas seal also allows Weapon Outfitters to go a bit smaller on the gas port which is a nice bonus.

Here is what Weapon Outfitters has to say about the rifling:

The patented hybrid polygonal rifling allows these barrels to use smaller than normal gas ports thanks to superior gas seals, and this method of rifling has been used to set accuracy world records.

Those are just words. They guarantee sub-MOA accuracy with quality match ammo. Check out the Weapon Outfitters 13.7″ TRACK Barrel. If you are like me, you are probably already picturing this barrel on a compact RECCEish build.

Emerson Knives Combat Karambit Upgrade

The Emerson Knives Combat Karambit will be upgraded with a new reinforced tip in 2015. This style of tip was available previously on Emerson’s Super Karambit. The tip is strategically cut short in such a way that removes the potential weakness of the thin curved point but still provides a penetrating point necessary for the karambit’s effectiveness.

Fortis REV II

REV2-D

I purchased a 12″ Fortis REV Free Float Rail for use on my lightweight project build and it has served me well. I needed an extremely lightweight, extended rail that mounted on the standard barrel nut for a 14.5″ barrel with permanently attached muzzle device and the REV fit hte bill perfectly. Fortis has now released the REV II that is basically the same rail except the short the 3, 6 & 9 o’clock forward rails that are present on the REV have been removed on the REV II. They have been replaced with additional KeyMod real estate and QD sling swivel sockets. The result is a rail that weighs even less at just 7.8 ounces (the REV 12 weighs in at 9.2 ounces).

This looks like an excellent revision to the REV series of rails. I really don’t use the forward rails and actually find them to be a bit uncomfortable for how I hold the carbine due to some sharp edges. The new version removes the rails, saves weight, and costs less (at the introductory price). That is a win-win-win.

The REV II is available at a special introductory price, exclusively on REVOLVR.

Bobro Engineering Developing Compact Back Up Sights

The new Lowrider Sights from Bobro Engineering are tiny but they are packed with some amazing attributes. They are about the same thickness on the rail as a stack of 3 quarters or about 2/10ths of an inch! Both the front and rear weigh just 1.7 ounces together!

Just because these sights are small, doesn’t mean they’re weak. Bobro states that sights pivot with zero slop. All of the adjustments have secondary locks to ensure that once they are zeroed, they stay zeroed. The sights are so low that they had to develop a new rail clamp design to support them!

From Bobro:

We designed a set of sights that are truly low profile.

Design requirements—

1-Low as possible
2-Durable
3-Locks on opening
4-Fits under optics/mounts
5-Lightweight

We designed a side pivot mechanism for strength and the lowest possible profile that will remain durable. The side pivot has internal detents, and we also incorporated a drive pin lock system. You must depress a button to fold them back down.

These aren’t available at the Bobro Engineering website yet. Stay tuned for release information.
