M&P Hybrid Kit – Now Available

Cole Partnerships and Training and ATEi have collaborated to produce the M&P Hybrid Kit. This kit comes with everything you need (extension block and new recoil spring assembly) to install your full size S&W M&P slide assembly on a S&W M&P compact frame. This configuration results in something closer to what many shooters want in a midsize M&P.

I have found, with Glock 17s chopped to take Glock 19 magazines, that this configuration is excellent for inside the waist band and especially appendix carry. It places more slide length below the belt line which serves to anchor the gun and help prevent the grip from pushing out away from the wearer. The shorter grip reduces bulk and printing above the belt line. Best of all, shootability is greatly improved over a compact.

The kit is available with either a black nitride or nickle boron finish and costs $125. You must call ATEi to order – (313) 388-8228.

SIONICS Weapon Systems Partners with Foward Controls Design for Upgrade Package

SIONICS Weapon Systems is partnering with Forward Controls Designs (FCD) to offer a very slick upgrade package on SIONICS rifles. The upgrade package will cost $75 and it will include the FCD Enhanced Magazine Release (EMR), Low Drag Forward Assist (LDFA), and Augmented Bolt Catch/Release (ABC/R). That price is a significant savings over purchasing the parts separately.

I have experience with all these parts. The EMR offers a slight extension and an improved shape over the standard magazine release button all without being prone to accidental magazine release like large extended buttons. The LDFA is lighter than the original part which is nice but it is mostly designed to provide more clearance for southpaws with ambidextrous charging handles.

The ABC/R is a gem. I have tried oversize bolt releases before and they can often lead to problems with bolt lock back (either early or not at all). FCD thoughtfully milled away excess material where it wasn’t critical so that the additional weight of the over size pad on the ABC/R wouldn’t adversely effect function. They also added subtle angles that make it easier to operate the bolt release. It is just a very smart design.

This upgrade package will be available soon.

Vortex Defender Flip Caps

The new Defender Flip Caps from Vortex Optics were one of the best things to come out of the lead up to SHOT Show 2016. Scope caps aren’t sexy but these will be a welcomed addition to the current scope caps on the market… most of which are either garbage, proprietary, expensive, or some combination of those attributes.

The Defender Flip Caps feature beefed up polymer construction versus other caps on the market. They have a spring loaded opening feature and can then be snapped into different positions depending on the user’s preference. They will also be compatible with Vortex’s new Dope Disk which is a dope chart that fits inside the cap and can be customized via their free LRBC ballistic app.

Best of all, these are made in the USA and covered by Vortex’s excellent warranty. I have high hopes for these.
