News from GWACS Armory

GWACS Armory CAV15 MKII

GWACS Armory is one of the few manufacturers that has managed to keep their AR-15 lower receivers, the previously reviewed CAV-15 MKII lower, in stock and shipping briskly. In fact, they have black lowers in stock right now and shipping within 3 days. Now they are riding their momentum into a number of incremental expansions that mean that we will be seeing good things to come from GWACS Armory for quite some time.

Chris Collins

Chris Collins

One recent expansion is the hiring of Chris Collins. You might know Chris from the History Channel’s Top Shot but he also has served in the Marine Corps, served as an instructor with United States Shooting Academy since 2009 and serves as the Director of Training with NextLevel Training. Chris is also the Director of Education for the Association of Defensive Shooting Instructors. Chris will have direct input on many of the current and upcoming GWACS Armory products.

GWACS Armory has recently announced that they are looking for customer input on their current products, products that you would like to see them carry, and their upcoming CAV-15 MKIII… that’s right. The CAV-15 MKIII is coming and it will incorporate several improvements that users have been requesting. I don’t have a timeline for you yet but you can contact engineering@gwacsarmory.com to share your input.

GWACS Armory will also be greatly expanding the products that they offer via their online store. Most noteworthy among the products are complete rifles built on the CAV-15 MKII and eventually complete custom upper receivers too. The complete rifles should be available soon. I will have more details and pricing information for you when it becomes available.

GWACS Armory CAV15 MKII Buttplate

Additionally, one of my favorite things about the GWACS Armory version of the CAV-15 MKII lower receiver was the excellent low-profile buttplate made from hard anodize aluminum. Its aggressive texture really locks it into your shoulder. It is available for purchase separately since it will also work as a shorter, lightweight alternative to an A2 buttplate on an A2 buttstock. GWACS Armory also says that a trap door version of their excellent buttplate will be available shortly as an upgrade to their lowers or for purchase separately.

Finally, GWACS Armory is anticipating that they will have various additional colors in stock sometime in mid February. These colors include Flat Dark Earth, OD Green, and the surprisingly popular Zombie Green.

Getting What You Want Part 1: “In Stock” Threads

My inbox has been getting hammered with emails for the last month from people who are looking for magazines, bolt carrier groups, upper receivers, lower receivers, ammo, and other items that are in short supply right now. I am doing my best to keep up with the emails but the truth is, you have access to most of the same information that I do. So, in this series called Getting What You Want, I will pull back the curtain on what I do to find things that are in stock so that you stand a better chance of Getting What You Want.

If you can’t find enough PMAGs to keep your new AR well fed, can’t find a bolt carrier group to finish that new build, or can’t find an upper that doesn’t cost twice what it should… stay tuned.

One of the best places to find information about what is in stock and where is on internet gun forums. AR15.com and other gun forums have several active threads where users identify various vendors who have specific items in stock. These threads help people pool their research resources and cover more ground in the search for in stock parts.

AK Magazine Deals

These types of threads not limited to AR15.com and those listed here aren’t even the only ones on AR15.com. Many of the various gun boards have similar threads that can help you find what you are looking for or help others find what they are looking for during this time of panic buying.

There are several ways to monitor these threads so that you can be notified when something is posted. Some forums will let you subscribe to a thread with an instant email notification whenever something is posted. Some forums also have RSS feeds on various threads so you can add them to an RSS reader to receive nearly real time updates. You can also just do it the old fashioned way and just check it a few times a day.

If there is a thread that you are watching, feel free to list it in the comments below.

White Sound Defense FOSSA-556

White Sound Defense is introducing a new muzzle device for the AR-15 called the FOSSA-556. It is a device that WSD promises will reduce flash, eliminate muzzle rise, and reduce recoil all without increasing concussion or noise (including that annoying pitch fork ringing that some pronged devices exhibit).

The FOSSA-556 is made from 17-4PH stainless steel with a titanium aluminum nitride surface coating. This should make it very resistant to corrosion and adhesion of carbon. I have really come to appreciate WSD’s approach to choosing materials and coatings without compromise.

As usual, there is a ton of great ancillary information about the device, its design, and application on WhiteSoundDefense.com. I have one of these inbound for review.

IWC Weapon Control MOUNT-N-SLOT KeyMod

Impact Weapons Components’ Weapon Control MOUNT-N-SLOT hand stops are one of my favorite products that they make. I own several of them for various hand guards and free-float tubes. They are simple and they just work.

The most recent addition to the Weapon Control MOUNT-N-SLOT is designed to attach to the various KeyMod hand guards. The Weapon Control MOUNT-N-SLOT KeyMod – Hand Stop is designed to provide an index point on your hand guard that can keep your hand from moving too far forward or to pull against to drive the carbine back into your shoulder. Like other MOUNT-N-SLOT accessories, it reduces weight and complexity versus comparable products that use rails to attach.

E9 Original Camera Strap Extension

I love my ECHO NiNER camera straps. I really like the features of the E9 Original Camera Strap but came to prefer the extra length of the E9 Light Speed Camera Strap. Now, with the introduction of the E9 Original Camera Strap Extension, I don’t have to choose between the two.

The E9 Original Camera Strap Extension is a simple enough piece of gear. It just replaces one of the camera connectors from the E9 Original Camera Strap with a 10″ strap (the original is 6″). That extra length makes it comparable to the E9 Light Speed Camera Strap in length.
