Review: TacPack April 2017

The April 2017 TacPack has landed. If you are an EDC gadget lover, you’re going to dig this one. Lets look inside!

Hopefully you are familiar with the concept of TacPack by now. If not, you can read the reviews of the previous TacPacks for some background on this subscription box.

KeySmart EDC Kit – There are two items from KeySmart this month. The first is a very cool keyfob that is made to wrap duct tape around so you can always have a small roll of I-can-fix-anything Tape with you. It comes preloaded with Gorilla Tape which is a nice touch. KeySmart also included one of their Nano-Wrenches which is very cool. It is a tiny keychain gadget that can be used to turn flat head screws and several sizes of nuts/bolts. These items were my favorites in the box.

Armaspec Titanium TakeDown Pins – If you are planning an AR-15 build, these will be handy. If you have an already built AR, you can add some bling. This TacPack is the very first time these pins have been available so you can be the first kid on your block to have them.

ABKT Tactical Cleaning Kit – Having a spare cleaning kit never hurt anyone. This one comes with several brushes, mops, a pull cable, and more. The case is a little cheap but it actually organizes the components well. Drop it in a range bag or emergency bag and go.

Splatter Targets – Everyone can use more targets. These Splatter Targets are the type that show hits well enough to see at distance. They are a useful size and will come in handy at the range. I was glad to see them in the box.

If you want to try TacPack, you can check them out at TacPack.com. The May box will include some items of HexMag among other things.

New AR15 Barrel Tease from Sionics

Sionics Weapon Systems is testing a new 18″ stainless barrel with black Melonite finish. Their previous 18″ stainless barrel had a bead blast finish and was well known for providing excellent accuracy. If the new barrel can provide the same level of accuracy along with a more durable and less bright finish, it should be a winner.

CDM Gear AK Light Mounts

CDM Gear is moving their BC47-1 and BC47-2 AK47 light mounts into production. These light mounts clamp to the barrel and provide a flashlight ring for for use with a 1″ diameter light. The mounts are machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and have an anti-rotation design so the mount will not turn on the barrel. They also have a cleaning rod hole so you can keep the standard AK cleaning rod on board.

The BC47-1 positions the light below the bore axis. The BC47-2 places the light above the bore axis.

These mounts will be available soon with pricing expected to be below $40.

Forward Controls Design 6315 Flash Suppressor / Compensator

Forward Controls Design (FCD) likes the A2 flash suppressor as much as I do. Their new 6315 Flash Suppressor/Compensator is basically an love poem written in steel to the venerable old workhorse.

The 6315 is FCD’s idea of an improved A2 Flash Suppressor. It is machined from bar stock and nitride finished. They reshaped the ports slightly so the the 6315 is just as good of a flash suppressor than the A2 but offers more muzzle rise compensation. The redesigned ports left room for a new feature that some people are sure to giggle about – a fact that FCD is fully aware of…

Since we now have more room in front of the 3 and 9 o’clock ports, we incorporated wire cutter alignment notches ahead of these ports.  The wire cutter notches will probably earn us some flak and endless ribbing about having to cut wires at the range while punching holes on paper, but we always design combat features into our products, they’re there, you don’t have to use them 🙂

Throughout all of these changes, FCD maintained the same dimensions of the original A2 so the 6315 is fully compatible with BFAs and A2 mountable suppressors. You can check out the 6315 Flash Suppressor/Compensator at ForwardControlsDesign.com
