Act Fast to Save Paul-E-Palooza

paul gomezPaul-E-Palooza is an annual training event, celebrating the life of Paul Gomez, that brings together some of the finest trainers in the world for two days of lectures, training courses, and more. The proceeds from the event go to a trust that was set up to benefit the Paul’s children.

This is the third year of the event and enrollment is down which is hard to understand given the caliber of the trainers slated to attend and the cost of just $300 for the whole event. Unfortunately, the number of registered students is low enough that the organizers will have to consider cancelling the event if enrollment does not improve by Monday, July 20th. I would hate to see that happen to the event and even more so to the Paul Gomez children’s trust.

The event is taking on August 15th and 16th place in Garrettsville, OH. Garrettsville is easily accessible via I80 which makes it an easy destination to reach from all over the Mid-Atlantic and many of the Mid-Western states. If you want to learn from instructors like Craig Douglas, Caleb Causey, Cecil Burch, Paul Sharp, Greg Ellifritz, Chuck Haggard, and more, you can register and pay online at PaulEPalooza.com.

KE Arms Picatinny Vice Block

I used a standard AR-15 detachable carrying handle to align free float rails during installation for years. It is a method that works fairly well. Lately, however, I have been using the KE Arms Picatinny Vice Block to align my rails. It has a few key advantages over the carry handle method that I used before. First, it costs a lot less ($9.95) if you don’t already have a carry handle (they don’t come on as many firearms and uppers as they used to). Second, it acts as a third hand to hold the upper while you tighten the rail which is very nice when you are dealing with small screws. Third, there is basically no chance of marring thanks to the block’s polymer construction.

This handy little bugger lets you lock anything with a picatinny rail into your vice so you can work on it. It is also great for holding your upper in place while you clean or install an optic or other accessories as long as you aren’t installing something that will prevent you from sliding it off the rail.

I am still finding uses for mine. Check out the KE Arms Picatinny Vice Block.

UPDATE: Several of you have been interested in purchasing just a Picatinny Vice Block but expressed concern about shipping fees. KE Arms has added a new option where you can purchase one of the blocks with a lower shipping cost built in if you are just buying a block.

The Warrior Assault Systems Low Profile Chest Rig (LPCR) is the latest in the line of low profile, high speed chest rigs from Warrior. The LPCR holds 4 – M4 style mag pouches in their elastic low profile mag pouches. There are extra rows on MOLLE webbing at either side of the LPCR which can accommodate a multitude of interchangeable Warrior pouches, such as pistol mags, radios pouches etc. The LPCR works particularly well with, Warriors PLB or Frag Belt combination to provide a lightweight Direct Action setup.

W-EO-LPCR-2

The unique feature about the LPCR is its ability to attach to Warrior’s new RPC (Recon Plate Carrier).  Simply remove the shoulder and rear straps and all the remaining clips line up with the corresponding ITW clips located on the front and sides of the RPC Plate carrier, creating a scalable armor platform.

The Low Profile Chest Rig is currently available in MultiCam, Coyote, and A-TACS-FG

All Warrior Assault Systems products are made from genuine U.S. Mil Spec materials and hardware.

Shannon Carter Knives – Urge

Shannon Carter should be on your knife radar. He is a relatively new maker with a strong visual style, great feel for ergonomics, sharp attention to detail, and a great portfolio of available models. All of those traits are obvious in his Urge model which has the type of refined look and feel that even seasoned knife makers struggle to achieve.

The Urge is one of those knives that you can envision being used for anything. It’s size, proportions, and blade shape lend themselves well to every day carry, hunting, general utility tasks, and everything in between. It’s muscular lines look simultaneously graceful and brutish but also serve the functional purpose of locking it into the hand. It is form and function.
