If Slings Could Talk

Imagine for a moment that you operate a business that creates and sells quality AK parts here in the States but you also do various training for all kinds of interesting people in far flung corners of the world. One day while working in an unnamed armory in Kabul, you come across one of the slings that you designed and sold laying in a box looking battered and worn but still very much usable. I bet that sling could tell some stories!

That is exactly the situation that faced Joe at Echo Nine Three. He posted a picture of the situation with a bit of commentary on the E93 Facebook Page.

From E93:

I made a visit to an undisclosed armory in Kabul today. To my surprise I saw one of our first 100 Dual Mode Slings (stainless polygon hub) in a box with several other. No idea how it came to be here. But, apparently it took the abuse well.

20$Bandit Mini Kit MK-7 GEN2

The newest iteration of the Mini Kit MK-7 is upon us! The Mini Kit MK-7 GEN1 will be phased out in favor of the new GEN2 which is manufactured for 20$Bandit by HonorPoint USA.

20dollarbandit mini kit mk7 gen2 Kryptek

The most noticeable change that you will note is better fit and finish. My earlier Mini Kit MK-7 is still going strong but in the review I mentioned that it was a bit crooked. I have put hands on the new Honor Point produced GEN2 version and they are straight as an arrow with even stitching. They even lay a bit flatter when empty. The GEN1 wasn’t bad. The GEN2 is just improved.

The other change is less noticeable. The short slip pocket beneath the elastic organizer is now just a bit deeper to better retain the items in the organizer.

At this point, there are very few of the earlier Mini Kits left. Most of what is available are the GEN2 pouches. New colors and fabric options are being phased in with the new generation of pouches. These include all the colors of the tactical rainbow and even some ultra-light fabrics. If you are looking for a camo pattern, Kryptek is already available and Multicam will be available next week.

Best of all, the new GEN2 pouches cost less and they are still made in the USA! Check out the 20$Bandit’s site for more details.

Smith & Bradley Ambush Digital Analog Watch

Smith & Bradley make some very fine, but rugged and affordable timepieces and they are pros at crowdfunding, having fully funded 2 previous watch projects on Kickstarter. Their latest project is the Ambush, a digital/analog hybrid watch with a drool worthy feature set.

Smith Bradley Ambush

The Ambush features both digital and analog displays on the same face. This provides the obvious benefit of being able to track 2 time zones at once. The blue backlit digital display also allows more accurate readings of the time and chronograph feature along with an alarm function.

Like previous Smith & Bradley offerings, the case is machined from 316L stainless steel for corrosion resistance and durability. The case is PVD coated to a deep black color. The case is topped off with a AR (anti-reflective) coated sapphire crystal. That case and scratch resistant crystal are wrapped around a Swiss movement which is typical for Smith & Bradley watches.

Smith & Bradley is known for their lume. They use Superluminova to create a watch face that is readable in low light with long lasting glow but without the “look at me!” glow that some tritium watches generate.

The slickest feature of the Ambush is probably the electronic compass. It is adjustable for heading and declination. When the compass is activated, the minute hand shows true north, the hour hand indicates your heading, and the digital readout shows your direction and heading in degrees!

Smith & Bradley watches are not inexpensive but they are a good value. They are an even better value when you get on board early in the crowdfunding process. Check out the Smith & Bradley Ambush Digital Analog Watch Kickstarter campaign.
