New from Aero Precision

Two new products from Aero Precision have my attention. The first, an AR-15 lower receiver that is designed to be compatible with the excellent Battle Arms Development Short Throw BAD-ASS and BAD-CASS,  is not available yet. Once it is available, I anticipate that it will be one of the most affordable lower receivers available that is designed to accept the short throw levers.

The second product is a slick side AR-15 upper. It seems like everyone wants AR-15 uppers without the superfluous forward assist but very few manufacturers make them and even fewer make them available as stripped uppers. Thankfully, Aero Precision has done just that. Their new slick sided upper receiver is now available.

Ka-Bar TDI Raptor Sheath from Veil Solutions

I am a big fan of the Ka-Bar TDI as a compact, easy to carry, and extremely affordable fixed blade knife option. I know several of you are as well so I try to highlight the various sheathing options that I come across. I recently came across Veil Solutions and their Raptor sheath.

TDI-Raptor1

The Raptor sheath is designed to carry the TDI in a somewhat horizontal position on the belt with the handle facing in toward the wearer’s center line. It is formed from Kydex and features a Pull-the-Dot style belt loop which can be switched to either side and can fit belts up to 1.75″ thick. They offer it in a number of colors.

If you don’t already have a TDI, Veil Solutions can add one to your order at a very attractive price. They will even stipple the handle for an additional $5!

Blue Force Gear Receives Patent for the RED Swivel

Blue Force Gear has received a patent for their RED swivel!

From Blue Force Gear:

WASHINGTON, D.C.—October 16, 2013—The United States Patent and Trademark Office issues Patent No. 8,516,732 to Blue Force Gear® for their RED™ swivel.  The Rapid Emergency Detachment™ (RED) swivel offers a replacement option for standard push button sling swivels through the unique knob shaped pull tab design.

When seconds count, a pull-knob emergency release is more reliable to discharge than a tiny, hard to find push button.  For the times when you need your weapon and other combat equipment off seconds ago, you’ll be glad to have this on your gear.

“We realized that under stress the ‘Quick Detach’ push button simply wasn’t,” said Ashley Burnsed, Blue Force Gear’s CEO.  “Sometimes you need to get out of your gear rapidly and we found that a traditional push button style QD didn’t allow an emergency release every time.  The RED swivel does.”

The patented RED swivel releases with a 7lb pull straight out from the socket.  The chance for accidental release is minimized by the knob shape and the fact that a pull more than 10-15 degrees off axis will not release the connection.  If you work with a rifle over or near water, or in other conditions where sling entrapment is a substantial risk, the RED swivel can be a lifesaver.

The RED swivel can also be paired with the Burnsed Socket™ or push button Universal Wire Loop™ – both from Blue Force Gear – to make the fastest 2 to 1 point sling on the market.

ROSCH Works SL1 News

The reception for the ROSCH Works SL1 has been very warm now that it is finding its way into the hands of users. I have been able to gather details on a number of items in the works for the SL1.

The SL1 currently makes use of an acrylic lens with optical grade coatings. This was chosen for durability. Some users have expressed interest in a sapphire lens option so ROSCH Works is currently testing the feasibility of such an option.

ROSCH Works SL1 Front

We mentioned previously that there are different tailcap options planned for the SL1 including a tape switch and clicky style cap. It appears that ROSCH Works is likely to kill both those birds with one stone. They are currently developing an adapter that will allow the use of Surefire E-series tailcaps including their tape switches.

Finally, you can expect to see spare parts on the ROSCH Works website within the next several weeks. I always appreciate when a company is committed to having spare parts available to end users.

Check out the SL1 Sight Light at ROSCHWorks.com.

I currently have one of these in hand for review so stay tuned.
