RE Factor Tactical just rolled out a new website and a new product to go with it. You can check out the new site at REFactorTactical.com and learn more about the new Recondo Pouch below.

The Recondo Pouch is designed to put a lot of information at your finger tips. That design starts on the outside of the pouch with a strap designed to hold a Garmin 301/401 GPS unit positioned so the wearer can read it just by looking down. The exterior of the pouch is also covered with loop Velcro for affixing ID and patches.

The interior of the pouch has a storage pocket for small items, elastic loops for pens or chemlights, and removable, 5″ x 5″ reference windows. Each Recondo Pouch comes with 2 removable windows that can be stacked or used one at a time.

The pouch measures 6″ x 3″ when folded. It comes with PALS compatible mounting hardware.

Mystery Ranch NICE Frame Daypack

I have been looking for a compact daypack that is compatible with my Mystery Ranch NICE Frame. Ideally, it would be something like the Load Sling/Day Pack concept created by FHF Gear. However, Mystery Ranch is no longer selling the Load Sling separate from the NICE Frame and, as far as I know, FHF Gear never put the daypack in production. I’ve looked online but mostly struck out which is what had me raiding my gear stash to see if I had anything that would work.

It turns out, the answer was right under my nose. The Fight and Flight LLAMA pack is a great pack with several very useful features. The feature that is germane to this article is the LLAMA Pack’s use of modular compression panels/beavertails called Tailgates. The LLAMA comes standard with a basic panel Tailgate but Fight and Flight Tactical has offered several variations that serve different purposes and serve to expand the capabilities and capacity of the LLAMA.

It turns out that the buckles on those Tailgates match closely to the buckles on the NICE Frame. I was able to bolt a Cargo Tailgate directly to the frame without modification. The bag stands off the frame a bit but settles down with a load in the bag. The standoff also allows you to use the pack as a compression panel for carrying gear or game bags between the frame and pack. In the picture above, there is a small Mystery Ranch Load Cell compressed behind the Cargo Tailgate (it works with a large Load Cell too).

I know I am not the only one who has been looking for a compact and relatively lightweight daypack option for the NICE Frame so, hopefully, this is helpful information. Fight and Flight Tactical hasn’t added all of their Tail Gate options back to their website since they migrated to the new site. If you want a Tailgate like the one shown, you will have to contact them directly.

Alternate Use for BFG Baton Belt Pouch

I have come to like Blue Force Gear’s Belt Pouches quite a bit. They are the culmination of several of the technologies that BFG introduced to the tactical gear world and, because of their versatile design, I have found all kinds of unintended uses for them.

The Belt Pouches make use of their Helium Whisper backing which is laser cut ULTRAcomp material which keeps the weight to an absolute minimum while increasing durability. ULTRAcomp’s rubbery texture also serves to increase the retention of the pouch by increasing friction on the contents. The BFG Belt Pouches also utilize heavy duty elastic front panels known at BFG as Ten-Speed. These features combine to make a pouch that is low profile, lightweight, and that will hold just about anything you can wedge into them no matter how awkwardly shaped that item may be.

The BFG Baton Belt Pouch is designed to carry a collapsible baton but I have found that it fits many tourniquets like it was made for them. Some people try to do the same thing with pistol magazine pouches. That may work with some tourniquets but the additional height of the Baton Belt Pouch allow me to fold and stage a CAT the way I prefer and store it extremely securely. It takes a few minutes to cram it into the pouch and that is a good thing. It’s a tight fit. The pouch holds it tenaciously but a quick tug lets the TQ leap into your hand.

I have taken to keeping one staged just as you see in the picture above so that I can easily throw it on my belt when I go out to the range. Having your medical gear staged, accessible, and easy to don is the key to having it available when you need it.

Note: For the curious, the above picture is the kit I often use at the range. This kit is close to everything I need and it saves me time because I can wear it to and from the range under a covering garment so I don’t look like a ninja out in public.
