TOPS Knives: Tac-Raze 2

TOPS first friction folder design now has a second blade shape available. Leo wanted the Tac-Raze to fill two purposes specifically. It had to be a good-looking gentleman’s EDC that could be carried and used in public, and it had to be a functional tool. To accomplish those needs, he started with simple shapes and added curves in all the right places. Even the sheath is stylish, but also gives the wearer a variety of carry options.

It’s not just about looks though. This knife will perform everyday tasks quickly and easily, such as opening packages, cutting down boxes, cutting rope, etc. The Tac-Raze is also a devastating slasher. It never hurts to have that last line of defense. It comes with good-looking Green Canvas Micarta handles, TOPS’ famous Black River Wash finished 1095 with TOPS’ “signature” differential heat treat. The strong brown leather sheath can be worn vertically or horizontally on a belt for ease of carry whether open or concealed.

New from TOPS Knives: Earth Skills Knives

The Earth Skills Knife was designed by Matt Graham, who is much more than just a “survivalist”. He is an athlete – ultra-marathons, triathlons, rock climbing, etc., a martial artist – several styles, and an expert in primitive weapons, hunting, and shelters. He has more “dirt time” than almost anyone else out there.

In keeping with the same theme as his first design through TOPS (the Little Bugger). It’s thin with TOPS’; modified Scandi grind, a tumble finish and tan canvas Micarta handle scales. This one comes with a deep carry brown leather sheath that Matt designed based off some old Native American styles of sheath. It is meant to ride cross-draw, underneath the belt, towards the back side of the wearer.

Please keep in mind, the stock of this tool is 1/8″ thick. Therefore, uses like batoning are not recommended and bent blades due to that type of use will not be covered under the warranty. It is meant for the types of uses you would normally get from a machete.

TOPS Knives News: New Knives, SHOT Show, and a Podcast

There is a lot of news coming out of TOPS Knives these days including the release of two new knives in advance of SHOT Show where they will have even more knives to show off.

The new Street Spike is similar in design to the venerable Street Scalpel, a knife that has been in the TOPS Knives line up for years. The main difference is the skeletonized handle that keeps weight, bulk, and cost to a minimum.

The XXX Dicer Knife is the latest addition to the TOPS kitchen knife lineup. The designers at TOPS Knives see it as a useful amalgamation of a cleaver and a spatula.

You can see even more new knives in the TOPS Knives booth at SHOT Show. They will be exhibiting booth 20401. This will be the earliest look at most of the 2020 line up.

Finally, TOPS Knives is starting a podcast. They warn that while most of their social media feeds are PG rated, this podcast will not be. Expect some colorful language. Find the podcast here: TOP Knives Podcast

Two New Knives from TOPS Knives – The A-Klub and Poker

TOPS Knives just released their two newest knives for 2019. Both have interesting stories behind their designers. The Poker is designed by TOPS Knives’ General Manager and the A-Klub is the first TOPS knife designed by a woman.

A Curious Combination of Kiridashi and Karambit

Loosely based on a kiridashi, TOPS’ GM Craig designed the TOPS Poker as a sort of last-resort self-defense knife that will also excel as a general-purpose EDC knife. Craig came up with the idea after making a kiridashi by hand in his spare time. Holding the finished knife, it became apparent it would also make an excellent tool for self-defense, so the design was modified to include a finger ring. You’ll find regardless of the reason you choose to carry the Poker, it will be up to the task.

First Female Designed TOPS Knife

TOPS is known for a few things: differentially heat treated 1095 blades, over-built unique designs, and working with outside designers (among other things). This knife hits all of those categories, and is also the first to be released by TOPS that was actually designed by a woman. Amanda Kaye is probably best known for having appeared on Naked and Afraid. She is no stranger to hard work having grown up hunting and learning Native American survival skills. The A-Klub was even designed based off of influences from Native American war clubs.
