Coming Soon: Short Crank Lever from Battle Arms Development

It seems like Battle Arms Development is always up to something and the list of available levers for the BAD-ASS is always growing. The new Short Crank will be the next lever released for this already extensively configurable AR-15 selector.

The Short Crank is a shorter version of the Crank lever. It is designed to be mounted on the same side as your trigger finger. The shorter length keeps it out of the way of your trigger finger while still providing enough leverage to operate it.

There is also another mystery lever that will be released soon. Stay tuned for details.

BAD-CASS-SA Now Available from Battle Arms Development

It has been several months since I reviewed a prototype of the BAD-CASS-SA from Battle Arms Development. I was seriously impressed with its combination of the proven lever designs of the BAD-ASS and the new robust dovetail attachment method. Well, after all these months, I am happy to say that the production version is finally available.

The dovetail design stems from the BAD-CASS-SA’s combat ready heritage. It is a semi-auto revision of the original BAD-CASS-3P which was Battle Arms Development’s idea of what a bomb-proof 3 position selector switch should be. The dovetail interface of the levers takes all the stress off of the screws that attach the lever to the selector core. Even if a screw was to break somehow, the fit is tight enough that the lever can actually be retained through hundreds of cycles (see my review).

Many of the same lever options that make the BAD-ASS great are also available on the BAD-CASS-3P. My preferred set up is to use a “Standard” lever on the bolt stop side and a “Short” lever on the ejection port side. This configuration keeps the ejection port side lever mostly out of the way of my trigger finger but still provides plenty of surface area for positive manipulation on my support side. You can choose 2 out of 4 available levers when you purchase the BAD-CASS-SA.

The best news of all might be that the BAD-CASS-SA will also be available in a short throw version. The BAD-CASS-ST-SA features Battle Arms Development’s pioneering 45 degree short throw core design. I have reviewed the short throw version of the BAD-ASS and I think it is probably the way the selector should have been designed in the first place. It is excellent.

This is probably my favorite Battle Arms Development selector yet. You can get your own BAD-CASS-SA or the short throw BAD-CASS-ST-SA at BattleArmsDevelopment.com.

BAD-ASS Crank Lever

You may remember that I recently showed you a prototype lever from Battle Arms Development for their excellent BAD-ASS that, at the time, was being called the Reverse Hybrid. Now it is being called the “CRANK” and it is in full production, ready to ship.

This lever was created by Battle Arms Development in direct response to demand from their users. It is reminiscent of the old starburst style selectors that many AR shooters love. However, unlike those selectors, these are actually well made.

The new name is fitting since these levers look somewhat like a crank that you might have rolled your car windows up with back in the day. That’s right whippersnappers, there was a time when power windows weren’t standard or even available.

The best selector on the market, continues to become more modular, more versatile, and more customizable. Check out the new CRANK lever for the BAD-ASS on the Battle Arms Development website. It is available with free shipping for a limited time.

Review: New Short Hybrid Lever for the B.A.D.-A.S.S.

Battle Arms Development (BAD) places a tremendous amount of importance on the feedback of their users. So, when their users asked for a new lever for the BAD-ASS, Battle Arms Development delivered. The new “Reverse Hybrid” lever is the result of direct user feedback.

The new lever is referred to as the Reverse Hybrid because it is essentially the opposite of the previously reviewed Hybrid lever. The Reverse Hybrid lever is thin for most of its length except for the end which has a bump (for lack of a better term).

BAD provided me with a prototype of the new lever to try. I was able to use it on both sides of the selector during testing. On the weak side, I like how the bump worked as a pivot point for moving the BAD-ASS with your index finger. It was very easy and intuitive to use. However, the bump is in the worst possible place in terms of interference with your trigger finger. If you are used to using an ambi-safety with standard size levers it probably won’t bother you, but others may want to consider a shorter or thinner lever which, thankfully, the BAD-ASS allows.

The Reverse Hybrid really seems like it works better as a strong (or thumb) side lever. The bump really rotates naturally under your thumb. It feels like a pivot point and just seems natural. It is long enough to reach easily. I did find that it wasn’t as easy to “ride” as the standard lever which has more surface area on which to rest your thumb. I can see the draw of this kind of lever since it does seem to rotate so nicely but it just doesn’t have everything that I look for in a selector lever.

All in all, I am not sure that the Reverse Hybrid is for me, but Battle Arms Development has been very up front about the fact that this isn’t for everyone – it was specifically requested by current users of the BAD-ASS. It may be perfect for you, especially if you are a fan of the popular “star” selectors. No one can say that Battle Arms Development doesn’t respond to their customers (the best companies always do).

The Reverse Hybrid will be available on the Battle Arms Development website soon.
