Ares Gear Aegis Enhanced Belt, SK

I have been wearing an Ares Gear Aegis Belt for some time now and it is easily the best everyday and CCW belt I have ever owned. I like it so much that I am considering purchasing a second one. The choice of buckle and webbing color just got a bit more complicated thanks to the addition of the new skeletonized buckle option found on the Aegis Enhanced Belt, SK.

The regular Aegis Buckle has a recessed area on the front face of the buckle. This recess is completely cut out on the SK version which exposes the webbing as it passes through the buckle.

The SK buckle is available on the Enhanced version of the Aegis Belt. It has the same double layer of 1.5″ wide super-stiff, proprietary scuba webbing as the regular Aegis Belt but with the addition of a layer of thin colored webbing.

MGL Victory Aegis Belt

Mean Gene Leather (MGL) just announced their new MGL Victory Aegis Belt. That is “Victory” as in Matt Jacques of Victory First who helped make the project happen and “Aegis” as in the Aegis Belt from Ares Gear. This belt combines MGL’s well crafted leather over webbing belt with the Aegis buckle.

I have been using an Aegis Belt from Ares Gear for a while now and it is the best gun belt I have ever owned precisely because of the buckle. The Aegis buckle makes the belt completely Velcro-free, easy adjust, it looks darn good, and it is easy to thread because one end of the belt is buckle-free. It should work just as well with a high quality leather belt but with a load more refinement.

Pricing and availability haven’t been announced yet so just feast your eyes on the pictures for now.

Money Well Spent

A friend of mine recently spent a little over $100 shipped on an Ares Gear Aegis Belt – a belt that I have been using for a while now and highly recommend. Another friend asked him how he could spend that much on a belt and his response was that he was tired being unhappy with a parade of $35 gun belts.

Ares Gear Aegis Belt JTT IG

I have had that same experience with a lot of things. I became tired of dealing with stoppages during training so I bought my first quality AR-15. I became tired of axes that wouldn’t take or hold an edge so I paid for better axes and learned to restore older, quality axes. I became tired red dot sights with battery life far shorter than advertised so I purchased Aimpoints (9 and counting). I can think of many similar examples.

It seems that finding gear that works isn’t all that different than skill building. You learn a lot from the failures and there usually aren’t any shortcuts.

I am not saying that good gear has to be expensive or that inexpensive gear can’t be good. I am saying that I have learned to buy the quality and features instead of buying the price point. This is why I rarely comment on price here on JTT. The value of a particular piece of gear is up to you and can’t necessarily be determined by what it costs.

Have you had similar experiences? I want to hear about them. Leave a comment below so we can all learn!

Ares Gear Aegis Belt Melonite Buckle

Ares Gear Aegis Melonite Gray

The Ares Gear Aegis belt is already pretty awesome thanks in large part to their custom buckle that provides very fine adjustment and a more casual, less gun-toter look. Well, it just became a little bit more awesome now that it is available with a Melonite processed buckle! This should serve as a very durable way to darken the appearance of the buckle for a lower profile look.

Melonite makes almost everything better. Check out the Aegis Belt at Ares Gear.
