Gearward Adds 3 New Compact Survival Cord Options
Gearward has added three new options for their excellent Compact Survival Cord (see the previous review). The new options include:
- Small Kevlar: 200′ of 200lb Line
- Mini Technora: 25′ of 600lb Line
- Micro Technora: 10′ of 600lb Line
The Small Kevlar option is most exciting to me. In my review, I mentioned that I hoped they would bring a kevlar option to their largest spool and they heard my pleas! 200 feet of cordage in such a small and easy to deploy package represents a lot of capability.

New for 2014 at UW Gear
UW Gear is making several changes to their product line for 2014 including the addition of new designs and colors. The new designs include MKIII versions of the Minuteman and Swampfox chest rigs and the latest color that will be added to the line up is OD Green. The Bandoleer will also undergo changes.
The MKIII version of the Minuteman will be the first addition with the Swampfox MKIII coming at a later date. The MKII versions will continue to be offered for the near future thought they will likely be discontinued at some point. The MKIII versions of these rigs will offer several improvements that will make the rigs more durable, lighter, and easier to manufacture which should help deal with UW Gear’s backlog. These improvements include a 4 magazine format, a more flexible harness, a new strap attachment method, a new flap design, and taped edges in place of the previous folded edges.
These changes are discussed in depth in the following video…
Additionally, these new MKIII rigs are intended to be part of a larger suite of gear items that they are currently developing. I am hoping that means there will be a small pack available soon to integrate with the rigs.

CPT/Oneiros Valley PAP
Cole Partnerships and Training has teamed up with Oneiros Valley to create the PAP or Practical Admin Pouch. It is one of the trimmest admin pouches that I have seen while still retaining quite a bit of useful organization features.
Mil-Spec Monkey recently received the run down on the PAP direct from Matt Cole of CPT:
AR Performance Shorty Brake
I recently covered the development and release of the Adams Arms Manimal Flash Suppressor, a muzzle device narrow enough to allow a .750″ gas block pass over it which is a useful feature for those with pinned muzzle devices. It has now come to my attention that there is also a muzzle brake option with similar functionality offered by AR Performance.
The Shorty Brake from AR Performance is not long enough to bring a 14.5″ barrel to a legal 16″ length. It is geared toward states that require pinned muzzle devices as part of their AWB legislation. As such, the Shorty Brake is actually as short as possible, adding only 5/8″ of length to the overall length of the rifle. It’s .750 outside diameter allows it to be permanently attached but still give the user the option of removing their gas block if they wish to install a new handguard.
Anything that gives ban state shooters more options is a good idea in my book. Check out the Shorty Brake at AR Performance.
