Operation Hawkeye Team 31 Auction

During the week of Veteran’s Day 2015 (November 4 – 11, 2015), Operation Hawkeye will conduct a massive online auction on Gunbroker.com in conjunction with the NSSF and others. The auction will benefit Operation Hawkeye’s continuing mission to support the causes and loved ones of the 31 Special Operations forces heroes from EXTORTION 17, lost on 8/6/2011. The effort will be called the Team 31 Auction and it will consist of goods, services, and memorabilia donated by scores of mission teammates, particularly tactical companies and others involved in shooting sports.

Operation Hawkeye’s goal is to make this the largest auction ever conducted to benefit the Special Operations forces community. Mark your calenders and stay tuned for more details.

Forward Controls Design Launches New Website

Forward Controls Design, started by Roger Wang previously of Battle Arms Development, has just rolled out their first website. You can get a look at all their products which are in production and there is even a hint or two about what will be coming in the future. For instance… I see a heading for the AR-15 and a heading for the SCAR. It looks like SCAR owners can expect some interesting news in the future.

The Beacon Outdoor Survival Box

You know Smith & Bradley for their watches but soon you may know them for interesting outdoor/survival related gear. The veterans of Kickstarter have launched a campaign to fund their latest project, The Beacon Outdoor Survival Box.

The Beacon is a floating, water-tight storage box with an integrated solar charger (with battery) and flashlight functionality built in. The interesting thing is that in spite of the fact that it combines 3 useful outdoor tools, it isn’t really any larger than a typical solar charger or water-tight storage box is on its own.

The USB charging receptacles (3) are located inside the storage compartment so you can actually store a mobile device inside The Beacon to protect it from the elements and charge it at the same time. If you have to charge multiple devices, you can open The Beacon and use all 3 ports simultaneously. The Beacon’s 10,000 mAh lithium ion battery can also be wall charged and the entire “power puck” portion can be removed from the box for separate use or cleaning.

The integrated LEDs gives you the choice of white flood light or SOS flashing modes. There is also an amber colored LED flood light option for situations where you may not want to overload your dark adjusted eyes.

Often, these widgets that try to combine a ton of features end up being monstrosities that are larger and heavier than just carry the items separately. The Beacon actually appears to combine the functionality of several items into a package that actually makes it an attractive alternative to the items it replaces.

The Deafening Silence PVC Patch is Back!

Do you hear that? It’s the sound of thousands of patch collectors pulling credit cards out of their wallet at the same time. The Deafening Silence patch is back.

I wrote about this patch (and it’s embroidered older brother) almost 3 years ago and it has been sold out just as long. That original post still sees traffic to this day and receive an email once in a while asking where to get them. There is obviously still a demand for this attractive and poetic patch.
