“Make Silencers Great Again” Promotion from Griffin Armament

If you are just waiting for HPA to pass before picking up a silencer, you may be in for some disappointment. HPA hardly a slam dunk and even if it does become law, it could be a long time before it takes effect. Worst of all, the suppressor market is going to be like the wild, wild west if it passes with high demand, high prices, and fly by night operations popping up all over the place. The long and the short of it is, if you want a silencer… buy from an established manufacturer like Griffin Armament and now is the time to act.

Griffin Armament is rolling out a very cool promotion where they will basically give you your $200 tax fees back and they are calling it the “Make Silencers Great Again” promotion. Every Griffin Armament suppressor (rimfire excluded) will now ship with $200 worth of store credit at Griffin Armament’s website. That means you can buy a can and then get the muzzle devices needed to set up a few more rifles for free.

From Griffin Armament:

Sales are down unnecessarily, said Evan Green business development manager at Griffin Armament.  “When the markets have been rallying and jobs are being produced, consumer misunderstanding of the legislative process and the Hearing Protection Act, is hurting an otherwise stable industry.  Many people who want to buy are sitting on discretionary spending in the hopes that HPA will soon pass. The entire industry has come to a very similar conclusion that it will be quite a while until HPA is able to pass if at all despite almost unanimous support.  People not buying right now is only further delaying them from enjoying silencers.  It just doesn’t make any sense and this shouldn’t have happened.

Unfortunately a lot of misinformation was flying around and nobody in the industry was trying to educate consumers on how long it actually takes to get a bill to pass, what percentage of bills pass, that the legislative process usually takes hundreds of days etc.  This bill in some form has been presented to congress since 2015 and this congressional session is closing in a few months, so it looks like it will be rolling to another year.

Griffin is just as hopeful as everyone else for the HPA.  However having a realistic viewpoint on it is critical to the survival of the silencer industry and the Americans who work hard to move it forward.  The ‘Make Silencers Great Again’ promotion is the most we can do as a company to try to encourage spending right now.”

Evan continued. “It’s honestly an amazing time to be a buyer.  I remember when I was younger and was spending my money on an OPS INC can and promotions didn’t exist in the market. You could barely even get a dealer to handle the sale for you. Muzzle devices had to be purchased separately from the silencer, etc.  I remember having to help my local class 3 dealer to understand the paperwork because he did so few transactions. But times have changed and there are plenty of dealers on the market selling products at great prices and walking the customer through the purchase quickly while keeping them informed.  This program is also a great way to let consumers know that we appreciate them, we’ve been wanting to so something like this for a while.

The EDC Tool Roll: Channellock 804 4.5″ Adjustable Wrench

The EDC Tool Roll is a feature on Jerking the Trigger in which we profile various every day carry worthy tools. The tools shown aren’t multi-tools but rather real tools, that by virtue of their compact size, light weight, usefulness, or unique functionality, can find a place in any range kit, emergency kit, or every day carry bag.

Feel free to comment on the tools that you carry so we can all learn! The discussion on these posts has been very valuable so far.

Channellock’s 804 4.5″ Adjustable Wrench is probably the easiest to carry adjustable wrench I own. It is only 4.5″ long but is also very slim overall making it easy to drop in your pocket. It only ways about 2 ounces so it is an easy addition to any compact tool roll.

Channellock 804 shown with 1911 mag for scale

The 804 can be opened wide enough to handle the 9/16″ diameter found on common 3/8″ nuts and bolts. If you are metrically inclined, it can handle a 15mm nut/bolt. It may be small but it will take care of a lot common fasteners.

The quality is excellent. It is drop forged with machined flats. The laser markings seem resilient and they are easy to read. The i-beam style handle makes it small, tough, and comfortable to hold.

This wrench will inevitiably be compared to the two previous adjustable wrenches features on The EDC Tool Roll – the Lobster UM24 and the Knipex Pliers Wrench. I’ll post a comparison of the three soon. The Lobster and Knipex both open wider but they are also more expensive, heavier, and larger. So, the 804 may not be as versatile as the others but it earns a place in my EDC Tool Roll for its compact size and lightweight.

Where to buy: I have only been able to find the larger Channellock Adjustable Wrenches locally. I purchased my Channellock 804 on Amazon. They even have a “tactical” black oxide finish version in the Channellock 804N.

The IDF’s new “Robocop” Knee Pads

News from Agilite:

Holon, Israel, 7th March 2017-The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has announced the selection of Agilite’s Axis™ tactical knee pads for standard issue to all IDF combat troops from March 2017 onwards.

A 2017 adaptation of an old industrial design, Axis’s primary advantage is that unlike regular knee pads, they do not fall down. Whilst rather unusual in appearance (they are nicknamed “Robocop Knee Pads” in Israel), they outperformed every other type of knee pads in extensive IDF trials that spanned several months.

Agilite worked with IDF SF units to perfect the design which provides over 180 degrees of polymer, hard protection as well as internal closed-cell memory foam for comfort even over extended periods. They are also exceptionally light, weighing in at just 9oz (255g).

Anyone who has spent five minutes in the military knows that with regular knee pads you spend all your time picking them up from your ankles. You put Axis on your knees and forget about them,” said Eric M, a five year veteran of Israel’s Navy SEALS (Shayetet 13) and Head of International sales at Agilite. “The look of them takes some getting used to but they outperform every other tactical knee pad by miles” said Marks. They are also preferential over internal pant knee pads as they provide exponentially more protection, surface coverage and comfort.

The IDF was looking for a new knee pad with increased durability and performance that does not fall down in order to increase combat awareness and the Agilite Axis was selected after an extended period in IDF SOF.

Agilite is now beginning trials of the Axis knee pads in SOF groups across Europe and North America.

Axis are available in Ranger Green, Flat Dark Earth (FDE) and Black from www.agilitegear.com or authorized Agilite dealers and retail at just $32.90.
