Why We Train – Other Weapons

Most of the time when one considers the appropriate use of deadly force it is in response to a crime in progress involving a firearm. However, it is important to consider that firearms are by no means the only weapons in an attacker’s hands that may require an armed response. Knives, bats, and even pepper spray being used in the commission of a crime could quickly create a justified deadly force situation under certain circumstances. With the rise of flash mobs and the violence that has accompanied some of these incidents, deadly force could easily be justified if a person is violently attacked by a group of unarmed thugs.

Recently in Salt Lake City an armed citizen was able to stop a violent stabbing spree. An apparently deranged man purchased a knife from a store and then proceeded to attack and stab multiple customers. If everyone would have just waited until the police arrived this story would likely contain more victims and some fatalities. Fortunately for everyone, a quick thinking customer who was prepared to act decisively intervened and stopped the threat. Train yourself now to be that guy if called upon!

BAD-ASS Short Hybrid Lever

Battle Arms Development is showing renders of their newest lever – the Short Hybrid. This will make a total of 8 lever options for the excellent Battle Arms Development – Ambidextrous Safety Selector. The new lever was designed in collaboration with Military Moron and production will start soon. This looks like the most ideal choice for the trigger finger side of the BAD-ASS yet.

Stay tuned to the Battle Arms Development website and Facebook Page for details.

Magpul Dynamics News

Some of you may not know that Chris Costa and Travis Haley are no longer part of Magpul Dynamics (the training wing of Magpul). Both have moved on to their own individual ventures. In spite of these high profile departures, Magpul Dynamics is in good hands.

From left to right: Jon, Duane, and Steve

The newest member of the team is Jon Canipe. Jon has impeccable credentials but, more importantly, he is an excellent instructor by all accounts. I haven’t trained with Jon, but he did take time out of busy schedule to do an interview on this very blog back when JTT was just starting out. Jon joins Duane Liptak Jr., Steve Fisher, and Caylen Wojcik, all noted instructors themselves.

You can read more about the current Magpul Dynamics staff in their industry forum on M4Carbine.net.

Battle Systems MPIL Production Version

I have received a few emails inquiring when the MPIL (Marker Panel, Individual, Lightweight) from Battle Systems would be available again. I have good news. The new production version of the MPIL available soon.

The production version features a few changes from the original pre-production version that I reviewed. The production version has new packaging, coyote brown para-cord attachment points, and an improved IR reflective patch.

ITS Tactical will have the exclusive release of the production MPIL in the next several days. Stay tuned.

NavELite Compass Demo

I have been talking about the NavELite magnetic compass quite a bit lately because I think it has the potential to be an extremely functional navigational aid. If you have seen all of the coverage of the NavELite but you still aren’t quite sure what it is all about, then you will want to check out this demo video that NavELite recently posted.
