The Becker Knife & Tool BK10 Crewman is Returning

kabar-becker-crewman-bk10

I always thought that the BK10 Crewman was the most practical Becker knife available during the days when Camillus still made the Becker Knife & Tool line. The Crewman is basically just a shortened version of the larger BK7. It is similar in size to the currently available Campanion but is 3/16″ thick rather than 1/4″ thick like the Campanion. This made it a better cutter while still retaining more than enough durability for anything you should be asking a knife to do. Thankfully, Ka-Bar reintroduced the Crewman at the 2013 SHOT Show and it should be available again soon.

The Becker Crewman knives are already listed at BladeHQ and should be in stock soon.

Custom Becker Knife & Tool Handles from The-Knife-Connection

T-K-C Becker Handles

Our friends at The-Knife-Connection are now offering G-10 handle scales for the Becker Knife & Tool 2, 3, 5, 7, 9 & 10 Series knives. They make the nicest and most functional handles around for most of the ESEE line and now they are applying that same know-how to the Becker line-up.

These scales are CNC machined and for a precise fit. They are designed to work with the factory sheath which means you don’t have to have a custom sheath made to fit the handles. The handle scales are available in a variety of colors that range from very subdued to very highly visible.

SOG Knives Snarl Designed by Jason Brous

Jason Brous of Brous Blades recently burst on the tactical custom knife scene in a big way thanks in large part to his Silent Soldier neck knife design. The Silent Soldier is a compact, self-defense fixed blade design that offers excellent retention in spite of its small grip. The demand for the Silent Soldier is massive so you will be happy to know that there is now a production version of the Silent Soldier from SOG Knives called the Snarl.

SOG Snarl

The Snarl retains much of functional design of the Silent Soldier. It has 2 large finger loops that facilitate a variety of different holds and make the knife easy to retain. The wharncliffe blade profile is good for both self-defense and utilitarian tasks. The Snarl is ground from .25″ thick 9CR18MoV steel. It has a 2.3″ blade and a 4.3″ overall length. It comes with a molded plastic sheath.

The Snarl is available for pre-order at our affiliate KnifeCenter.

Blade-Tech RIPTIDE

Blade-Techriptide

I do not have the training necessary to get much out of a karambit but I have seen various demonstrations that are quite impressive. It really is an effective tool in trained hands. Blade-Tech is offering one of the newer karambits on the market – the RIPTIDE. This thing has some very slick features.

I like knives with multiple, redundant opening methods. The RIPTIDE has 3 – an Emerson Opener (“Wave”), a Blade-Tech signature V-Hole opener, and a flipper. It also has an 5/32″ thick, 2 1/4″ long AUS8 steel blade with an interesting compound grind, G10 handle slabs, steel liners, and a liner locking mechanism.

Ontario RAT Model 2 Folding Knife

The Ontario RAT Model 1 Folding Knife is one of the absolute best deals on the market when it comes to folding knives. These knives offer extremely versatile design, quality construction, and a surprisingly low price. Now Ontario is offering a smaller version called the Model 2.

Ontario RAT Model 2 Folder

The Model 2 has an AUS8 steel blade like its bigger brother, the Model 1. However, the Model 2’s blade is only 3″ long which makes it legal to carry in more places. AUS8 may not be sexy these days but, unlike many stainless steels, it is easy to sharpen at home or in the field and was purposely chosen because of that by the Model 1’s designer, Randall Adventure Training (the group that would later become ESEE).

The Model 2 features a large easy to use double thumb stud. It has textured FRN scales that are pre-drilled for a 4 position pocket clip. The Model 2 will be have a liner locking mechanism and hardened steel liners like the Model 1.

The best news is that they will cost even less than the Model 1. This may be the best sub-$30 folding knife on the market. Check out the Ontario RAT Model 2 Folding Knife at our affiliate KnifeCenter.com.
