V Seven Weapons AR-15 GI Lower

V Seven Weapons just took the wraps off their new AR-15 GI Lower. This forged lower incorporates features that are typically only found on billet lowers and adds a bit of V7 flair.

The lower starts with a 7075-T6 forging which is then machined to final dimensions. V7 finishes the lowers with a typical hard anodizing but takes it a step further by adding a coating of KG Gun Kote. The front of the mag well is textured for those who prefer a magwell grip (these cuts also lighten the lower). The magwell opening is flared.

V7 could resist doing what V7 does by making this lower just a touch lighter. You a lightening cut on the grip tang. The lower weighs 8 ounces overall which is .5-.7 ounces less than a typical GI lower. That isn’t much of a difference but it is something. V7 has stated that they have plans for an even lighter lower to be released around Christmas time of this year.

Sneak Peek: Circle 10 AK Folding Stock Adapter

Circle 10 AK will be releasing a new folding stock adapter soon that should be plenty interesting to those of us who own AK’s with side folding stock trunnions with the 4.5mm pin (there may be a 5.5mm version available at a later date). The new adapter will allow you to swap out the stock for a collapsible AR-15 style extension that will accept AR style stocks. It will retain the ability to fold though it will not use the latch when folded. The images below shows an early prototype of the adapter while folded. Expect the production units to differ slightly than what is shown.

I recently tried to purchase a similar adapter from an overseas source. The entire experience was a pain in the rear and took forever. When I finally did receive it, it didn’t fit either of my AKs with this style of stock and it the extension was commercial diameter so I didn’t have a stock that would fit. It will be nice to have an adapter like this available from a domestic source.

Stay tuned for release details.

Now Shipping: Magpul Core Covers and PMAG 25 LR/SR Sand

Magpul is shipping two new products as of today.

magpul core covers

Their new Magpul CORE Cover is a fitted ballcap style cover that is constructed from mesh. I have really come to favor as much mesh as possible in a cap to make it easier to wear during shooting, exercising, and other active pursuits.

Their PMAG 25 M118 LR/SR 7.62 Magazines are now available in their Sand polymer. If you have an AR308, it is nice to have at least a few of these 25 round magazines. While they are heavier, they are long enough to be used as a monopod when shooting from the prone and that can be a useful marksmanship aid.

Daniel Defense Adds Kryptek Typhon

Daniel Defense is now offering Kryptek Typhon as an coating option on two of their AR-15 rifles. The DDM4V11 and MK12 can both be had with the new camo pattern option.

From Daniel Defense:

The Daniel Defense MK12 and V11 are now being offered in the Kryptek Typhon finish. The MK12 features an 18-inch stainless steel barrel and rifle length gas system while the V11 comes standard with a 16-inch Chrome Moly Vanadium Steel barrel and mid-length gas system. The water-transfer printing process (also known as hydro-graphics) of this finish makes for a durable, uniform coating that holds up to and resists even the harshest environments.

Kryptek utilizes a multi-directional design to effectively conceal in a multitude of terrains that have lateral or vertical flows. The bi-level layering of the patterns incorporates background transitional shading and sharp random geometrical foregrounds to create a three-dimensional effect, ensuring the utmost in concealment at both close and long ranges. These components, combined with colorations selected and matched based on input from testing and observations from operators in the field, make Kryptek patterns optimal for many different situations

Gunstruction September 2015 User’s Choice Build

I always look forward to Gunstruction’s monthly User’s Choice Build. Gunstruction is an expansive and powerful virtual rifle building application that lets users explore weight, price, and aesthetics before they ever purchase a single part. The User’s Choice Build represents a combination of the most selected parts in each category by Gunstruction users.

These builds are always interesting. They often end up being an interesting blend of trendy or exotic parts and affordable parts. Some parts are classics that end up being among the most popular every month (like the Magpul MOE Plus Grip and CTR Stock). What is perhaps most amazing, is that this unintentional design-by-committee approach usually works and the resulting AR-15 is always something that most guys would be glad to add to their safe.

Check out Gunstruction’s September User’s Choice Build and start your own build while you are there.
