Perroz Designs LPSPC Design Update

I have written about the Perroz Designs Low Profile Slick Plate Carrier (LPSPC) before on the pages of JTT and I actually have one in hand that I have been using for a review. It is a solid design that just received a slick new feature.

The previous LPSPC design featured solid Hypalon cummerbund with no way of attaching pouches. It will now come standard with a laser cut Hypalon cummerbund that is capable of accepting PALS compatible pouches. The same laser cut voids that create the MOLLE compatible attachment system also serve to reduce weight and improve airflow.

OV Innovations Under Pack Belt

I have learned the hard way that any belt worn under a pack’s hip belt should be as thin as possible and as uniform in thickness as possible. If it is thick or there are bulges like a buckle or even a smaller hardware like a slider, you run the risk of developing a nasty hot spot that will make you miserable in short order. This is why OV Innovations created their Under Pack (UP) Belt.

This belt is designed to be low profile and work without hardware. It is purpose built to hold your pants up without slowing you down with hot spots when worn under a pack. You might find that it works well under a “battle” belt as well.

New Magazine Carriers from Fury Carry Solutions

Fury Carry Solutions just rolled out two new magazine carriers. The Gunslinger and Gunfighter magazine carriers both feature stacked Kydex construction and can carry four magazines each. The Gunslinger provides a means to carry four handgun magazines while the Gunfighter provides a means to carry two handgun magazines and two AR-15 magazines. The Gunfighter’s AR-15 magazine carrier components it molded to accept any AR magazine.

Both of the new carriers are available with belt attachment hardware, MOLLE attachment hardware, or both belt and MOLLE hardware. They are available in a number of colors including Multicam and Kryptek. The user has their choice of several different magazine types and orientations at the point of purchase.

GWA Base Strap Mk1 Pre-Order at NextGen Warfighter

The new Gear Whores Anonymous Base Strap Mk1 is available for pre-order at NextGen Warfighter. This is a replacement band for the Suunto Core or any other watch of similar size. It requires the use of readily available conversion lugs in order to attach to the Core.

The Base Strap also has a small section of strap that is specifically designed to accept a Suunto Clipper compass. When the Core and Clipper are placed together, the wearer would have two very capable land nav tools close at hand.

More New Gear in Development at UW Gear

This is a followup to yesterday’s post about the new gear in development at UW Gear. All of the items shown here are developemnt prototypes that may not reflect how the product will look once it reaches production… if it even reaches production.

UW Gear has been working on a belt kit for some time now. This (above) is the first prototype that they have shown publicly. The belt is wider than most to bear weight effectively and has light padding sewn in. Circumferential stitching locks the padding in place and adds structure to the belt. The suspenders are somewhat reminiscent of UW Gear’s chest rig harnesses in that they thin but but wide rather than padded. I should also note that the magazine pouches shown are prototypes or belt specific double mag pouches.

They have also been working on a canteen/utility pouch design. This pouch is large enough to hold a canteen with cookset and features UW Gear’s tuck tab closure. This would be at home on a belt kit or even used to expand the carrying capacity of a ruck.

I don’t mind covered magazine pouches, especially on a chest rig. In fact, I prefer them in many cases. However, UW Gear is commonly asked to produce a chest rig with open top pouches. They are developing one that uses a combination of shock cord retention with Kydex inserts to retain the magazine. The Kydex inserts are secured in the pouches with Velcro. The shock cord tension system provides some redundancy in that, if the Kydex insert is lost or broken, the shock cord still provides enough tension to retain the magazine.
