MPIL/CAT Trap from Battle Systems LLC and OC Tactical

Battle Systems LLC is now offering a special version of the OC Tactical CAT Trap that is designed to hold the MPIL signal panel. The MPIL/CAT Trap has a minimalist design that allows the user to stow an MPIL directly on the surface of any MOLLE compatible webbing. This is an extremely compact and easy to deploy way to carry your MPIL.

Like the original CAT Trap, the MPIL/CAT Trap will hold a tourniquet and it has a patch of grip material on its underside to increase retention. The MPIL/CAT Trap has the addition of a small loop Velcro field on its exterior to hold IR or visible light reflective patches that are often used in conjunction with the MPIL.

BERNE Concealed Carry Workwear

I recently recommended BERNE Workwear to a friend after years of using their insulated overalls. My previous preferred brand of workwear has been cheapening their product by shortening the leg zippers, removing the front zipper, and reducing the overall quality of their products but BERNE has maintained steady and excellent quality during that time. That recommendation lead to a discovery that makes me like BERNE even more as a company.

BERNE has introduced the Echo One One Concealed Carry Jacket and Echo One Zero Concealed Carry Vest. There is also a ladies version called the Lima One One Jacket that is coming soon. These are built with the same toughness and quality that I have come to expect from BERNE products but with design and features specifically meant to support carrying a concealed handgun.

The jackets feature what BERNE calls the Adder System which is a essentially a tear-away pocket that reveals a storage system for carrying and organizing concealed carry gear like your handgun, flashlights, and spare magazines. The pockets are designed to conceal the handgun and also to be cleared quickly during the draw-stroke (see the video below).

I always prefer on-body carry but that may not be possible if you have to wear something like insulated overalls for your work. This could represent a viable option for those whose apparel precludes normal carry options. It is nice to see a workwear company that supports the concealed carry market. It makes it easy for me to decide which company will be getting my money.

SHTF Gear Protos Holster

The SHTF Gear Protos Holster is now available for the Glock 43 with other models coming soon. At first glance, this may look similar to SHTF Gear’s other hybrid holsters but the Protos has a few key differences.

Edit5

The Protos is more compact than SHTF Gear’s ACE-1 Gen 2 holsters thanks to its single, centrally mounted belt clip. It offers adjustable ride height and cant via multiple mounting positions for the previously mentioned clip. It also offers a slightly flared opening for easy reholstering and all the comfort you expect from a hybrid holster.

The really clever part of the Protos can be found in the trigger guard area of the kydex shell. Hybrid holsters never really feel quite as positive in how they retain your handgun because of the flex in the leather side. SHTF Gear has solved this by wrapping the kydex completely around the trigger guard of the handgun which is generally where a full kydex holster retains a handgun. This offers the comfort you expect from a hybrid with the positive click in and out of a full kydex holster. It’s a very simple and very clever concept.
