TacStrike Backyard Memories Targets

I always seem to have training goals to meet or products to test when I am on the range. It is easy for me to forget that shooting can be really, really fun. It is especially fun when you get your family or new shooters involved. TacStrike makes targets for people like you and me who have goals to accomplish on the range but, now, they also make targets for those who just want to have fun and make memories.

The Backyard Memories Targets line is designed to be fun, safe, durable, affordable, and right at home on backyard range. There will be an entire line of these targets eventually but the first offering is the Shepherd’s Hook Hanging Steel Targets which is designed to be hung from something that many families already have in their yard. The target slips onto a steel shepherd’s hook which is often used to hang bird feeders or flower pots.

This target is made from A36 steel and can handle .22LR and most handgun rounds at a distance of 10 yards or more. It is available in a number of sizes and multi-packs for as little as $14.

Mini Kit (MK-7)

If you build a better EDC solution, the world will beat a path to your front door… or something like that. Mini Kit MK-7 is a mulch-purpose EDC (every day carry) organizer pouch that is currently being crowd funded on Kickstarter. It is the brainchild of YouTube user 20$Bandit.

Mini Kit MK-7 exterior

The Mini Kit (MK-7) is a clam shell opening pouch with a number of internal organization features that are well suited to the items that many of us carry daily. The exterior of the pouch features a small section of loop material for adding personal ID or tapes to ID the contents of the pouch. The interior of the pouch features a clear vinyl pouch for carrying documents and ID on one side and a series of pockets and elastic loops on the other for retaining lights, knives, cables, pens, and similar items on the other. The kit can be secured in the closed position via an elastic strap.

One look at this kit will give you several ideas on how it could be used. Of course, the obvious use is as an EDC gear organizer but additional uses like survival/E&E kit, first aid kit, cord/cable organization, or even a small navigation kit come to mind.

Check out the Mini Kit (MK-7) Kickstarter page to see if it something you want to help fund. There is less than 1 week left to get involved.

Trooper-Gear SHTF+ Wrap

Trooper-Gear has a new version of their SHTF Wrap (Stop Heat TransFer Wrap). The SHTF+ Wrap is very similar to the original in form and function but it benefits from the addition of thermal insulating material that is sewn into the wrap. The thermal insulation allows it to protect the user from an even wider range of temperatures.

The SHTF+ Wrap is secured around your free float rail via Velcro. It protects from heat (and cold), provides grip, and protection for the rail when bracing on barricades. It is fits most slick-sided free float tubes (and many 4 rail tubes) and it adds minimal thickness which is nice when you have purposely chosen your rail to be thin. You can even sandwich your weapon light’s tape switch in the Velcro portion of the wrap.

Many of the slick sided free float tubes do not have a heat mitigation solution available. The SHTF+ Wrap is universal enough that it can fill that role. Check out the SHTF+ Wrap at Trooper-Gear.com.

Aero Precision M4 Barrel

Aero Precision is usually my first stop when I need an AR-15 upper or lower receiver. I have found their receivers to be an excellent value and it appears that their newest offering is going to be a great value as well. They are now serving up an M4 profile barrel that looks like a great value on paper.

The Aero Precision M4 Barrel is turned from 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium steel and features a 1 in 7″ twist. It has an M4 profile, carbine length gas system, a 5.56 chamber, and M4 feedramps. This barrel accepts a standard .750″ gas block over it’s .0635″ gas port. I commend Aero Precision for not only listing their gas port spec but also for sizing it correctly!

The icing on the cake is the inside and out QPQ finish. QPQ is a nitriding treatment. Similar finishes are often known by their trade names like Melonite and Tennifer. QPQ is hard enough and corrosion resistant enough to stand in for chrome lining. Since it is a treatment, not a coating, it adds almost no thickness to the bore which can lead to improved accuracy.

Aero Precision would like to offer additional barrel profiles in the near future so stay tuned. Check out the new Aero Precision M4 Barrel.
