V7 Weapon Systems Ultra-Light Forward Assist

Lightweight AR-15 builders have taken several approaches to lightening the forward assist. Some have removed it and used plastic plugs to full the hole that is left behind. Others use upper receivers that lack a forward assist to begin with. Both of these approaches leave you without a functional forward assist which, while it may not always be needed, it is nice to have. Now there is another option for shedding weight at the forward assist – the V7 Ultra-Light Forward Assist.

The V7 Ultra-Light Forward Assist, like many other V7 Ultra-Light parts, is made from 7075 T6 aluminum which is hard coat anodized. The small foot that engages the carrier is made from hardened 4140 steel for longevity. It weighs just 9.2 grams or 55% lighter than the standard forward assist.

BFG UWL for Left Handed AK Shooters

It can be a bit of a challenge to mount a sling on an AK-47 (or AK-74) for the left-handed shooter. The rear sling point can usually be worked with but the front sling attachment point isn’t very forgiving for lefties. I have helped a few left handed shooters set up AKs and I always recommend using a Blue Force Gear UWL to turn the standard handguard cap hook mount into a lefty-friendly sling attachment point.

I first noticed Larry Vickers using the UWL in this way shortly after they came out. It is the best solution that I have seen for left handed AK shooters. Now, Blue Force Gear has been kind enough to make a video showing how it works.

CANIS Design Group – MOE Handguard Kits for the VEPR

CANIS VEPR MOE 2

CANIS Design Group is working to bring the Magpul MOE Hand Guards to the VEPR. They will be offering kits that will allow VEPR owners to mount the MOE hand guards in place of the original front handguard and gas tube cover. Perhaps more importantly, this will bring an entirely new set of sling mount, vertical grip, hand stop, and light mount options to the VEPR.

The handguards will mount without modification to the host rifle though the handguards themselves are modified. They mount via the factory screw and 2 provided retainer plates.

Bogota π

SerePick is showing off a new product that they may bring to market soon called Bogota π. SerePick has created other Bogota sets in the traditional pick form factor like the Titan Flats set. However, these are around 3.14159265359” (hence the name) which makes them very compact.

The Bogota π set includes a Hook, Double, Triple and Quad Bogota along with a flat double-sided tensioner. Currently, only a few sample sets have been created. They will hopefully go into production soon.

RETA Kydex M&P 15-22 Mag Holders

The S&W M&P 15-22 is pretty much the best thing going when it comes to rimfire training carbines. One of the best things about it is that it has affordable, easy to load, and reliable magazines. Unfortunately, due to the feed tower design of the magazines they don’t always fit well in the same mag pouches you use for your centerfire carbine.

Enter the RETA Kydex M&P 15-22 Kydex Mag Holders.  They are 2 piece, “pancake” style mag holders that ride close to the belt. It is nice to see serious support gear for a rimfire carbine that is capable of serious training.
