Emerson/Pro-Tech CQC7

Pro-Tech Knives manufactures excellent automatic knives at relatively affordable prices and the Emerson Knives CQC7 is an absolute classic. What would happen if they were to join forces? The result would be an amazing knife. Apparently, I have been living under a rock because the Emerson/Pro-Tech CQC7 has been around since 2010!

E7T02-Large

The Emerson/Pro-Tech CQC7 is basically dimensionally identical to the Emerson Knives CQC7. It features Pro-Tech’s reliable automatic mechanism nested in a milled 6061-T6 aluminum handle. The iconic CQC7 tanto shaped blade and the spearpoint CQC7A blade shapes are available. These knives are available in a variety of handle types that range from mild to exotic.

The Emerson/Pro-Tech CQC7 is available at BladeHQ. I am going to have to pick one of these up for review!

Ares Armor Effin-A Compensator 5.56 MKII

The Ares Armor Effin-A Comp and its innovative tuning feature are now available in a more refined MKII version. The Ares Armor Effin-A Compensator 5.56 MKII retains much of what was great about the original but reduces the weight by half and adds some notable functionality.

Ares-Armor-Compensator-EFFIN-2

The new version of the Effin-A features 7 rows of 3 ports. Like the original, the ports can be opened or closed by inserting provided set screws. The new MKII version adds limiters so that the set screws bottom out. This allows them to stay tight even when being buffeted by muzzle blast and prevents the user from accidentally tightening a screw so it sticks down too far into the muzzle device.

The MKII version has had a lot of its excess material machined away. The result is that the MKII weighs just 2.5 ounces or half of what the original weighed. That is impressive.

Thoughts on the New 3 Color Desert/Burnt Orange Hive Satchel

The new Burnt Orange/3 Color Desert colorway for the Blue Force Gear Hive has met with incredulous statements about orange not being a discreet color. These people are largely missing the point. The reality with most of what people call “discreet” colors is that they are just tactical colors that have been re-purposed and called discrete. The result is that many “discreet” carry bags end up looking like, well… discreet carry bags.

Hive OrangeDCU

The Hive doesn’t look like anything other than a fashionable sling bag. It is purpose built to hide its contents in two ways. One way is a direct method of physically obscuring the view of its contents via structure and padding. The other way is misdirection. It looks like a fashion bag and as such it is made in fashion colors. In case you haven’t noticed, bright colors and camo patterns are in right now.

The choice of a bright color (it isn’t that bright in person) is purposeful. By making a bag that stands out a little, Blue Force Gear has made a bag that looks unlike any other purpose built discreet bag. They are disrupting the pattern of discreet carry bags and the reaction to the colors they have chosen largely validates their choice. Of course it doesn’t look discreet… It isn’t supposed to!

I now have one in hand and I can say that it isn’t nearly as loud as it looks in the initial press pictures and it looks really, really cool.

Griffin Armament SPR Suppressor

Griffin Armament produced a video outlining the benefits of their SPR suppressor. The SPR is a new 5.56 over the barrel suppressor (reflex) suppressor being offered as a high performance, high value can. They compare it directly with its Ops Inc competitor and the SPR seems to stand up well to the comparison.

I have been very impressed with the value that Griffin Armament is able to offer with their compensators and flash suppressors. It looks like they are able to bring that same level value to their suppressor line.

Check out the SPR at Griffin Armament.
