Have you ever thought it would be nice to have a folding stock on you AR-15? I suspect that most of you have and you are not alone which is exactly why Law Tactical makes their AR Folding Stock Adapter.
The AR Folding Stock Adapter is a hinged mechanism that can be installed between the lower receiver and receiver extension (buffer tube) on any standard AR-15 lower. It allows the stock to fold to the bolt release side of the receiver. Due to the nature of the AR-15 recoil system, it should not be fired while the stock is folded which is potentially a very large downside to this adapter since there is nothing to prevent the user from firing.
The Generation 2 AR Folding Stock Adapter will be released very soon. It features several improvements over the original version including:
- Lower profile housing
- Redesigned hinge system with steel shoulder bolt
- Enlarged steel locking lug
- Adjustable hinge tension (holds stock in folded position)
- Steel locking latch
- Quick detach sling attachment point
- Adjustable steel bolt carrier extension
This is a controversial item. Some people are convinced that it’s a menace, and that someone is going to get seriously hurt when they forget to lock open the stock (as when exiting a vehicle under fire) but training can mitigate that, and it might be a good option for low-profile carry and transport while traveling.
I can certainly see why it is controversial. There is nothing to prevent the user from firing when the stock is folded. However, all things considered, it offers some interesting functionality.
I really want to drop a UBR picture right in this thread 😉
I figured that you would like this one Owen. The AK certainly does folding stocks far better than the AR.
The “thing” that prevents the user from firing it with the stock folded is known as training, competence, knowing your equipment, manual safety etc. The same as flipping the safety off before firing the shot. It’s the same as ensuring you’re pointing the weapon at your intended target.
I’m definitely interested in this item for it’s numerous practical purposes. Folding it up in a smaller range bag or pack. Mounting it on the side of the trunk of my car for some strange reason. I think it’s a great idea, people just have to realize they could get themselves in serious trouble if they don’t lock the stock to the rear.
