Build your own AK with Jim Fuller and Billy Cho of Rifle Dynamics

Building your own AK sounds pretty cool because it is pretty cool. Building that AK with recognized industry leaders like Jim Fuller and Billy Cho of Rifle Dynamics is even cooler.

On February 10th, Rifle Dynamics will be putting on a “Build Your Own AK Class” in their Las Vegas, Nevada shop. They will teach you how to use the right tools and techniques as you build your very own AK from a Romanian parts kit with a chrome lined US made barrel and NoDak Spud receiver. Then, once it is built, you will be able to test fire it.

There are only 15 spots available for this class so contact Rifle Dynamics right away (info@rifledynamics.com) if you want to be part of it.

TAREINCO TSH Giveaway

The recently reviewed TAREINCO TSH (Tape Switch Holder) is clever enough that it makes me forget my general hatred of tape switches. As much as I usually don’t care for them, tape switches are necessary equipment in some situations (working with lights and night vision equipment, etc). The TSH offers a very manageable way to retain and route your tape switches without having to resort to tape, glue, Velcro, zip ties, or other improvised means of retaining the tape switch.

So at this point, you are probably thinking, “I would sure like to win one of those!” Well, you are in luck because I have 3 of them to give away.

The Instructions and Rules

Comment below with a number between 1 and 3000. It is that simple.

I will draw 3 random numbers on the evening of October 19th, 2012. The 3 people who pick the numbers that are closest to the winning numbers without going over will win their very own TSH courtesy of TAREINCO (there is a good chance that some JTT swag will be thrown in as well).

This contest is open to those in the USA or US Armed Forces only. One entry per person only. Please use a valid email address when you leave a comment so I can notify you if you win. If the same number is chosen twice, the first person who posted the number will win.

Much thanks to Mark at TAREINCO for the giveaway items!

UPDATE: The winners are…

2580 (Tom chose 2556)

2224 (Mike chose 2196)

Winners, watch your email. I will be in touch.

Knife Sharpening with a Creek Stone

Matt Lesniewski of ML Knives recently posted a video that shows him using smooth stones from a creek to sharpen knives. The video is tremendous and I can testify that this does work. Apart from showing a couple of basic techniques for sharpening on rocks, this video highlights a couple of things for me. First, a lot of people over think and over spend on sharpening equipment. Second, simple carbon steels really excel for field knife use. You can use this technique on modern stainless steels but it will be more difficult.

Check out MLKnives.com to see more of Matt’s knives. I have had the pleasure of owning several of them over the years and they were all excellent knives.

TAREINCO MPIL Pouch

We are big fans of the Battle Systems MPIL and while one of the key features of the MPIL is that it can be stowed just about anywhere, it can be nice to have a dedicated pouch for it. That is where TAREINCO comes in with their MPIL Pouch. TAREINCO loves the MPIL just as much as we do so they did what they do and made a pouch for it.

The MPIL pouch is nearly as compact as the MPIL itself. It is just 3”x2.75”x0.5” and mounts to 1 column and 2 rows of PALS webbing. It features a pouch for holding the MPIL itself and a smaller pouch for holding your IR glint tapes for use with the MPIL. The front of the pouch has a Velcro panel that can hold small patches or IR glint tapes.

The MPIL Pouch is currently available from TAREINCO.com and they will be available as a package with an MPIL soon. Check out the MPIL on BattleSystemsLLC.com.

ModuLoader from Raven Concealment Systems and Ares Gear

The ModuLoader from Raven Concealment Systems (RCS) and Ares Gear is a shotgun shell carrier system. It allows you to carry shotgun shells on your shotgun like a side saddle, on your belt, or both at the same time.

The system utilizes Velcro backed panels with elastic loops. The Velcro allows them to be placed on a custom kydex belt panel or adhesive Velcro material that adheres to your shotgun receiver. This system allows the user to quickly and easily place a shell holder exactly where they need them. You could even carry extra shell carriers and swap them out  as you deplete others.

The ModuLoader is available in a variety of colors and both 2 and 5 shell models. Check out the Raven Concealment Systems and Ares Gear websites.
