Ruger American Rifle Predator

The Ruger American Rifle is one of the best values on the bolt-action centerfire rifle market. The new American Rifle Predator is the latest addition to the line.

The American Rifle Predator features a threaded, hammer forged barrel that varies from 18″ to 22″ depending on caliber. The trigger is Ruger’s Marksman Adjustable Trigger and the lightweight stock is bedded and allows the barrel to free float. The rifle feeds from a detachable rotary magazine.

I am a sucker for lighter weight, compact precision bolt-actions like these – especially when they are suppressor ready. This would make a great base rifle for a light precision project on a budget.

RUGER SR-762

I have been impressed with the Ruger SR-556 carbines that I have been able to handle and shoot. The one that Dann at God, Gals, Guns, Grub owns has been reliable through nearly 3000 rounds, is very accurate, and is fairly well appointed right out of the box. If only Ruger had chosen a better twist rate and a rail system that was user replaceable!

Ruger SR762

Now word is out that Ruger is releasing a 7.62×51 chambered AR called the SR-762 and it looks pretty good on paper. It has their 2-stage piston system with 4 position gas block much like the SR-556. The cold hammer-forged Mil-Spec 41V45 chrome-moly-vanadium steel barrel is fluted to reduce weight (8.6 pounds is not too shabby). I am relieved to see that they went with the SR-25 pattern magazine so the rifle is compatible with PMAGs.

If the SR-762 has a street price that is sub-$2000, is as accurate and reliable as its little brother, and Ruger can get them onto dealer’s shelves, they could have a real winner on their hands.

SwissBianco QDS

Ruger recently came out with a really slick take-down version of the 10-22 which has been a smash hit. Lost in the excitement of the new take-down 10-22 is the fact that people have been using standard 10-22 as a take down rifle for years. The 10-22 is held in its stock by a single screw so it is easy to separate into two pieces for easy packin. The QDS from SwissBianco makes it even easier to turn your standard 10-22 in a tool free take down rifle.

QDS

The QDS, or Quick Dissassembly Screw, is a thumb screw that replaces the standard stock screw. This allows you to quickly remove the barreled action for the stock without the need for tools. This is a pretty simple solution and it is considerably less expensive than a dedicated take-down rifle.

It is good practice to witness mark the screw somehow so you can return it to roughly the same torque spec to ensure that your zero is unchanged after you replace the action in the stock.

New Ruger 10/22 Tactical

Ruger 10/22s have always been excellent suppressor hosts. Until recently, if you wanted to use a 10/22 as a suppressor host you had to purchase an aftermarket threaded barrel. This adds cost to an already expensive project.

Now, with the introduction of the new 10/22 Tactical, shooters have access to an off the shelf suppressor ready rifle. The 10/22 has all the great features that you have come to expect from the standard 10/22 with the addition of a threaded muzzle. The rifle will come equipped with a Mini-14 style flash suppressor to protect the threads (there is almost no real use for a flash suppressor on a .22LR chambered rifle).

I commend Ruger for supporting suppressor users like this.

Ruger Announces New 6.8SPC Chambering for the SR-556

Ruger announced that the SR-556 will now be available chambered in the excellent 6.8SPC. While I don’t necessarily like everything about the SR-556, I am pleased that a company like Ruger is getting behind the 6.8. Hopefully the cartridge will continue to gain traction.

This should be a pretty exciting development proponents of the 6.8SPC.
