Elzetta Lights on American Pickers?

If you keep an eye on History Channel’s American Pickers next season you might spot some familiar flashlights. A dependable flashlight like those from Elzetta is a must when you are in Frank and Mike’s line of work – unless you like Tetanus.

Review: Prometheus Lights Titanium Pocket Clip

There are a number of great flashlights on the market that do not come with pocket clips. Thankfully, Prometheus Lights is here to help with their Titanium Pocket Clip.

Prometheus Lights Ti Pocket Clip

Overview

The Titanium Pocket Clip is, well… it’s just what it sounds like – a pocket clip made from titanium. The specific alloy used is 6Al/4V. The pocket clip has a large ring at one end that can be slipped over the barrel of the light along with an included o-ring when the tailcap is removed. The o-ring serves to remove any play between the clip and the light, and the tailcap, once reinstalled, retains the clip. There are two o-rings provided: black and glow in the dark.

This clip fits several popular lights including the popular Surefire Fury series and Elzetta lights. I picked this up specifically to try it on an Elzetta ZFL-M60.

The quality seems excellent. It has a sort of stonewashed finish that looks great. You can also tell that great care has been taken to remove any sharp edges. Retention is strong and well suited to pocket carry. It is just right.

Observations from Use

I have been carrying the Titanium Pocket Clip almost daily for a little over a month.  In that time, it has done nothing but hold my beloved Elzetta ZFL-M60 right where I want it and that is all I really need it to do.

It fits the Elzetta ZFL-M60 like it was made exactly for it. The ring that rides around the barrel of the light sits almost exactly flush with the outside diameter of the tailcap. The end of the clip can be nestled perfectly into the lengthwise oval shaped grooves in the light where Elzetta engraves their branding. This keeps the clip from rolling around the body of the light and keeps the Elzetta ZFL-M60 light from rolling when dropped. This is the clip that should come standard on the Elzetta lights!

Prometheus Lights Ti Pocket Lanyard Hole

It isn’t called out specifically on the Prometheus Lights website but there are two cutouts in the clip and the smaller of the two makes a great lanyard attachment point. So, whether it was intentional or not, the Titanium Pocket Clip adds a lanyard attachment point to your light in addition to the pocket clip functionality.

I also tested the Titanium Pocket Clip on several other lights: Surefire G2X, G2L, C2L, and Streamlight PolyTac LED. It worked perfectly on all of them and didn’t preclude the use of constant on like some thicker clips can. In fact, the PolyTac LED makes a dandy budget EDC light with the addition of this clip. I suspect that this clip will fit the vast majority of lights with standard 1″ barrels and removable tailcaps.

Wrap Up

The Titanium Pocket Clip turned a light that I love, the Elzetta ZFL-M60, into a light that I can’t live without. There are so many great lights out there that this will fit. This is such a simple and great product.

Limited Edition Elzetta ZFL-M60 wit FDE Cerakote

Every once in a while, Elzetta releases some limited edition lights that are usually pretty slick. The latest one is probably the slickest one yet. There are a limited number of Elzetta ZFL-M60 lights available custom coated with FDE Cerakote.

The 2 cell ZFL-M60 is available in 4 configurations Standard or Flood lens with High/Low or High/Strobe tailcap. The coating is applied over the hard anodizing for increased durability. Best of all, they are the same price as a normal ZFL-M60!

Review: Elzetta ZRX Light Mount

I’ve been able to spend a couple of months with Elzetta’s newest light mount – the ZRX Lightweight Tactical Flashlight Mount. I was pretty skeptical of the mount at first since I am quite used to a competing polymer light mount of which I own several. However, after these 2 months, it is clear that the ZRX stands on its own. I think it might just be the new value leader when it comes to rail mounted light mounts.

Elzetta ZRX Light Mount

Overview

The ZRX Lightweight Tactical Flashlight Mount is an offset light mount that can hold a variety of different tactical lights – not just those from Elzetta.

It is constructed in the USA from two main materials: glass filled polymer and hard anodized aluminum. These materials both quite common in the “tactical” world but it is the way that they are combined in this light mount that makes the ZRX great. The ZRX has a polymer body and rail grabber and 2 aluminum flashlight rings that are attached to the cross bolts.

When you tighten the cross bolts, the flashlight rings are drawn into the body of the ZRX and the rail grabber tightens on the rail. This design allows the ZRX to automatically adjust to flashlights that range from 0.94″ to 1.04″ (23.8 to 26.4 mm). That is very handy because many lights that claim to have a 1″ diameter can actually vary in size.

Observations from Use

There were no real surprises with the ZRX. It functions like an offset flashlight mount should. It holds the light close to the rail but offset to one side or the other. I used it to place my ZFL-M60 at the 10-11 o’clock position which works well with the thumb over or thumb forward grip that I prefer.

I have found that there can be quite a bit of variation in the actual diameter of lights that are listed as having 1″ diameters so the way that the SRX automatically adjusts to the diameter of the light body is very clever and very useful. It also makes installing and removing the light very easy.

Elzetta ZFL-M60 Mounted

I really appreciate the light weight and lower profile of the ZRX compared to other polymer light mounts. The ZRX weighs only 1.1 ounces and it sits lower on the rail which keeps it clear of your sight picture when it is mounted on the top rail and lets it interfere a bit less with your grip if space is tight on your rail.

There is one fly in the ointment with this mount. Each ring on the mount adjusts independently which makes it pretty easy to mount the light crooked. This is especially true for lights that have a lot of variation in their diameter. I tried the Elzetta ZFL-M60, Surefire G2L, Surefire G2X, and a Streamlight Polytac and found that, while some were harder to mount straight than others, they could all be mounted straight with some care.

Wrap Up

I really like this light mount. I like the light weight. I like the clever way it adjusts to lights of various diameters. I like the price. I like that I can trust Elzetta. This is a solid light mount at a competitive price. Just be careful to keep the light aligned with the bore when you are mounting it.
