Sneak Peek: SLR Rifleworks to Offer AK Hand Guards

SLR Rifleworks released a teaser image that shows their upcoming AK hand guards. The aluminum hand guards will be available in both standard and extended length models. Both of hand guards show plenty of the signature SLR Rifleworks style with obvious design cues coming from their line of AR-15 rails.

Griffin Armament AK Flash Comp 14x1mm LH

Griffin Armament has brought their Flash Comp to the AK. The M4SD Flash Comp continues to be one of my favorite AR-15 muzzle devices so it is nice to see it adapted to work with the 14x1mm LH threads found commonly on AKs.

The AK Flash Comp 14x1mm LH is made from 17-4PH steel with a black oxide finish. It is long enough to bring a 14.5″ barrel to a legal 16″ of length and is pre-drilled for pinning. Like the AR version, Griffin Armament claims that this provides neutral muzzle control and solid flash suppression.

It can also be used with Griffin Armament’s new QD Blast Shield but should not be used with their suppressors.

Manticore Arms Eclipse 24mm

Some of the finest AKs (both AK-47s and AK-74s) ever imported into the USA have 24mmx1.5 threads and yet, it is one of the most neglected thread patterns in terms of muzzle devices. Thankfully, Manitcore Arms makes 2 excellent options in the previously reviewed NightShroud and NightBrake. The NightBrake is a solid flash suppressor that performed well in my testing but it is outclassed by pronged flash suppressors like the Manticore Arms Eclipse which I tested for the AR-15.

Now, the Eclipse is coming to the AK and specifically those with 24mm thread patterns. One of the features that really sets the NightShroud apart is the inclusion of locking notches around the entire circumference of the device. This ensures a solid fit and this feature will also be included on the Eclipse 24mm. It has 3 long prongs that are slightly twisted.

I have not tested this device yet but if it performs anywhere near as well as the AR version, it will be excellent. Check out Manticore Arms.

BFG UWL for Left Handed AK Shooters

It can be a bit of a challenge to mount a sling on an AK-47 (or AK-74) for the left-handed shooter. The rear sling point can usually be worked with but the front sling attachment point isn’t very forgiving for lefties. I have helped a few left handed shooters set up AKs and I always recommend using a Blue Force Gear UWL to turn the standard handguard cap hook mount into a lefty-friendly sling attachment point.

I first noticed Larry Vickers using the UWL in this way shortly after they came out. It is the best solution that I have seen for left handed AK shooters. Now, Blue Force Gear has been kind enough to make a video showing how it works.
