Forward Controls Design LDFA

Roger Wang, formerly of Battle Arms Development and currently head of Forward Controls Design, is now publicly showing the LDFA, a forward assist that is specifically designed to be used with ambidextrous charging handles.

The LDFA is a slimmed down forward assist that has had all sharp edges and potential snag points removed. The primary benefit is that the LDFA will not catch on the fingers of a left handed shooter when they operate the charging handle. However, this could also be attractive to those who, like me, don’t use the forward assist, but are not necessarily ready to give it up completely.

Roger speaks about the LDFA in evolutionary terms. The idea is that as a carbine and its associated manual of arms evolves, so should that carbine’s controls. In this case, the forward assist is shrinking into a vestigial tail of sorts due to its less common use. It is an interesting way of approaching development for a weapon that has changed as much as the AR-15 has over the years.

The LDFA will be available soon in parkerized 4340 steel, unfinished Ti, and DLC coated Ti.

New Gear for 2015 at Gear Sector

Gear Sector has rolled out a new line for 2015 called SFP or Small Foot Print. The SFP line includes multiple smaller and lighter versions of some of Gear Sector’s most popular mounts. These mounts still features the distinctive radius that Gear Sector is known for that allows their mounts to sit flush with Tango Down rail covers.

The GS-342x Surefire Scout Light Offset Flashlight Mount is a smaller and lighter version of their excellent GS-312x series mounts. The new GS-3345 Offset Sling Mount shows just how light these new designs can be weighing in at only .48 oz.

Stay tuned for more new releases in Gear Sector’s SFP line.

Bastion CARBONEER – Carbon Fiber Key Hanger

Bastion LLC just introduced the CARBONEER, a key hanger made entirely from carbon fiber. They are attempting to fund its production via Kickstarter.

Key hangers have become popular in the EDC enthusiast community due to a very simple function that they perform and the benefit it provides. As you can probably guess from the name, a key hanger is used to hang your keys. The benefit is that when this is done from a belt loop it can free up space in your pocket. Alternately, you can hang them from the lip of your pocket with the keys inside which prevents them from sitting in an uncomfortable lump at the bottom of the pocket.

The CARBONEER is laser cut from a single sheet of carbon fiber so it is more than strong enough to suspend heavy key rings. It is skeletonized to reduce weight and add grip. It also features 3 separate attachment holes for key rings to further ensure that your keys don’t bunch together into a lump.

Check out the CARBONEER on Kickstarter.
