More Intel on the Upcoming Hill People Gear Capture Flap

Hill People Gear added the Capture Flap to their website after last week’s tease. It can not be ordered yet but we now have a new image of the back/connectors and a more complete understanding of its features.

From Hill People Gear:

The Capture Flap is a PALS cut, beaver tail style accessory, that can mount to any HPG pack and packs of other manufacturers. You can mount PALS pouches on the front, and either PALS or velcro pouches on the back.

The Capture Flap is mounted via G-hooks that connect to the webbing tabs on our packs. The top of the flap comes with an adjustable amount of webbing to loosen or tighten the flap against the pack.

The “OG” – Optimized Gamechanger from Armageddon Gear

The Gamechanger, designed Reasor Precision Solutions and produced by Armageddon Gear, is a thoroughly modern shooting bag that is usually made from thoroughly modern materials. Modern materials like 1000D nylon are fine but if you want a bag that stands out and takes on character, you might want to try a throwback material like waxed canvas. That’s right… waxed canvas.

The new “OG” – Optimized Game Changer is a throwback to the earliest iterations of Reasor Precision Solutions’ Game Changer designs and it available in two different colors of waxed canvas. The OG has the same great versatile shape that lets you stabilize your rifle on a variety of irregular surfaces like barricades, fenceposts, and window openings. It also has the same consistent fill that shooters expect from the Game Changer. It has handles at both ends but lacks the Velcro straps found on the more modern Game Changer.

Charles Daly Honcho

Love them or hate them, there is no denying that the Raptor Grip from Shockwave Technologies has created a very hot market for short, non-NFA shotguns. Until now, that market has been mostly limited to the big players in shotguns – Mossberg and Remington. Now there is a new player wading in at a budget price.

Charles Daly is set to release the Honcho in .410, 20GA, and 12GA. All three have 14″ barrels with black polymer furniture. The 12GA and 20GA models have a section of rail on the handguard for attaching a light. All three models have a fixed blade front sight.

Like several other Charles Daly shotguns, these appear to be manufactured in Turkey. Their MSRP (around $300) is lower than the retail price on most other similar shotguns which may be enough to tempt those who have otherwise ignored the birdshead grip shotgun craze thus far.

Attention to Detail: Forward Controls EMR in 17-4 PH Stainless Steel

If you are reading JTT, I like to think you and I have a lot in common. You probably enjoy seeing the otherwise unseen details that define a maker’s craftsmanship and thoughtfulness. This 17-4 PH Stainless Steel EMR-C from Forward Controls Design (FCD) is a great example of that.

AR-15 magazine release buttons are usually made from aluminum as are most of the EMR (Enhanced Magazine Release) variants that FCD produces. But what if you wanted to make one from stainless steel? Some manufacturers would be content to chuck some steel into the CNC and call it good. It would be just like every other magazine release… but marginally heavier.

FCD doesn’t work that way. They couldn’t call it good enough until they took as much weight out as they could. They added two little kidney shaped holes to the back of the button that bring the weight to “acceptable levels”. These holes are tiny, designed into the contours of a very small part, beautifully machined, and… COMPLETELY INVISIBLE WHEN THE EMR-C IS INSTALLED!

I love stuff like this. You likely wouldn’t notice the weight once it was installed. You’ll never see the lightening cuts after installation. That doesn’t matter. They still did it. It’s craftsmanship even when no one is looking.
