Fix It Sticks just rolled out three new bits for use with their tools or any other tool that accepts standard 1/4″ shank bits. The new bottle opener bit is relatively straight forward and self-explanatory. The 1911 bushing wrench is designed to depress the plunger and allow the user to rotate the barrel bushing for removal. The Mini Pry-Bar can be used for light prying, removing nails, and more. It also features cutouts that allow it to be used as a wrench for 1/4″, 5/16”, and 3/8” nuts.
New from Occam Defense – MERC Freefloat Handguard for Kalashnikov Pattern Rifles
Occam Defense has opened pre-orders for their new MERC free-float handguard for Kalashnikov pattern rifles.
From Occam Defense:
The MERC is a revolutionary improvement to handguards for the AK platform (PATENT PENDING). The MERC offers rock solid optics mounting and hand protection, lowering the handguard temperature by over 100°F after five magazines. Gloves are no longer required equipment for extended fire rates when deploying the MERC. The MERC is easily installed in less than 30 minutes with commonly available tools.
The system builds upon the knowledge gained from the Occam Defense RST (Rear Sight Tower)- The MERC builds on the popular press-fit part by adding clamping for user installation along with a thermally managed aluminum handguard.
The Most Combat Effective Handguard Solution Occam Defense’s MERC increases the combat effectiveness of AK rifles by adding a rugged, thermally managed handguard and optics mount in a user-installable configuration. Extended length handguards have long been available for the AR platform. They have obvious benefits for ergonomics– taking a long grip forms a strong triangular base, useful both at distance for accuracy and for weapons retention in CQB environments when hostiles may gain access to the muzzle of one’s weapon. They are also required for mounting modern force multipliers– lights, lasers, IR illuminators, etc.
However, the mounting methods used for previous extended guards were less than optimal. They pulled unacceptable amounts of heat from the barrel and deposited in the worst place possible–the operator’s hand! Occam’s Patent-Pending MERC solves this problem by anchoring the guard far back on the barrel at a single, cool, point, and uses heat shield technology to reflect heat away from the handguard. In field tests, the Occam Defense was over 100°F cooler than the nearest competitor. Maximum Effectiveness – Reduced Complexity: The MERC is the New Standard for AK Handguards.

Carbon Tactics EPOCH
Carbon Tactics is at it again. They just launched their 11th Kickstarter campaign for a belt a completely new buckle design… a design with a quick release mechanism that should be very familiar to you. The crowd funding campaign launched yesterday and it is has already more than doubled its funding goal.
The new EPOCH belt features another unique machined aluminum buckle design from Carbon Tactics. It uses a trigger to release. The design makes the belt very easy to release, allow for some flex between the two parts of the buckle, and keeps the male side of the buckle very compact so that it can pass through belt loops.
Like other belts from Carbon Tactics, the EPOCH is available with a number of options. It is available with three different colored triggers and various webbing colors. It is available with a single layer of webbing, a double layer or webbing, or a black biothane/webbing hybrid. I own several of Carbon Tactic’s double layer webbing belts and have found them to be great for bearing the weight of a handgun while not being too stiff.
It should also be noted that Carbon Tactics has improved their adjustment feature. They state that their new locked adjustment only needs to be set once and it locks the length all day without slipping.
Check out the EPOCH on Kickstarter.
TriTech Tactical AR Glock Magazine Compatible PCC Grips
TriTech Tactical’s TPG-ARG series of grips allows AR based, Glock magazine compatible pistol caliber carbines to carry a spare magazine inside the grip. The TPG-ARG series of grips mount to a standard AR-15 lower receiver grip interface and can store a Glock magazine inside, where it can be released by a button. The grips are available in two sizes – the TPG-ARG915 for full-size magazines and the TPG-ARG910 for sub-compact, compact, and full-size magazines.
TriTech Tactical appears to be working on a second generation of this grip and is soliciting feedback on their website.
New from TOPS Knives: Camp Creek Knife
TOPS Knives just released the Camp Creek, their first production knife to use S35VN stainless steel. This knife appears to have a lot of great features including being ground from thin 1/8″ steel stock, a bull-nose skinner profile, and a kydex dangler sheath. The combination of tough S35VN steel, thin stock, and a tall flat primary grind should make this knife an excellent cutter.
From TOPS Knives:
Every year, TOPS’ President Leo Espinoza makes himself a knife for hunting season. Sometimes that knife ends up being a TOPS model. The Camp Creek is one of those. The goal with this model was to make a super high quality hunting/camp knife using materials that are uncommon for TOPS. Hence the use of CPM S35VN steel, 3 color camo G10 handles, and a stylish Kydex sheath with a leather dangler. The superior design, fit and finish, and material selection combine to form one of the best hunting knives ever to grace TOPS’ lineup.
