20$Bandit Ultralight First Aid Kit Prototype

20$Bandit is always bouncing around ideas and prototypes. Every once in a while Eric, the man behind 20$Bandit, lets us in on what is on his work bench. This is one of those times. Feast your eyes on this 3 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ x 1/2″, 2.6 ounce first aid kit.

The kit is designed to be an inexpensive, single use kit for the outdoorsman. It is small enough and light enough to be carried in a shirt pocket yet well stocked enough to treat an array of boo-boos. It will also fit in the Mini-Kit MK7.

This kit doesn’t have a name yet so feel free to make a suggestion in the comments below. It should be available soon from 20$Bandit.

RE Factor Tactical Operator Plus

The RE Factor Tactical Operator Band Plus is typically only released every once in a while on a limited basis. It has all the same functionality as the original Operator Band but adds a special hybrid buckle. Like the normal Operator Band buckle, it has a hidden handcuff key which can be used to escape illegal detainment (or other compromising situations). However, this version of the buckle also has an integrated whistle which can be used to wreak absolute havoc at your local aquarium’s trained dolphin performance. I guess it could be used to signal your location in an emergency too.

The Operator Band plus will only be available until August 31st and includes the follow:

  • 30′ of 80lb Test Spider Wire Fishing Line

Grey Ghost Gear JED Bail Out Bag

Grey Ghost Gear’s new JED Bail Out Bag is now available. This is a compact bag that is designed to fit in tight spaces yet still carry a large, well organized load of gear.

The exterior bag has a massive loop field that is large enough for more than just ID patches. It can be used to mount Velcro backed accessories like holsters and magazine pouches. Each end is capped with a flap covered pouch.

The main compartment is secured with a full length zipper to give easy access. The interior features several mesh pockets and elastic organization.

The JED Bail Out Bag comes with a shoulder strap with removable pad.

20$Bandit Mini Kit MK-7 GEN2

The newest iteration of the Mini Kit MK-7 is upon us! The Mini Kit MK-7 GEN1 will be phased out in favor of the new GEN2 which is manufactured for 20$Bandit by HonorPoint USA.

The most noticeable change that you will note is better fit and finish. My earlier Mini Kit MK-7 is still going strong but in the review I mentioned that it was a bit crooked. I have put hands on the new Honor Point produced GEN2 version and they are straight as an arrow with even stitching. They even lay a bit flatter when empty. The GEN1 wasn’t bad. The GEN2 is just improved.

The other change is less noticeable. The short slip pocket beneath the elastic organizer is now just a bit deeper to better retain the items in the organizer.

At this point, there are very few of the earlier Mini Kits left. Most of what is available are the GEN2 pouches. New colors and fabric options are being phased in with the new generation of pouches. These include all the colors of the tactical rainbow and even some ultra-light fabrics. If you are looking for a camo pattern, Kryptek is already available and Multicam will be available next week.

550 FireCord Update

550 FireCord has come a long way since I last wrote about it. Live Fire Gear smashed their crowd funding goals for the project and it is now entering the final stages of production. You can expect it to be available sometime in October.

The product itself has been refined considerably. The 550 FireCord prototypes shown during the crowdfunding effort was basically just para-cord style nylon sheathing around a thick tinder strand. The more refined version will actually have regular nylon inner strands like standard para-cord with the addition of a color coded tinder strand. This should make it more durable and useful as survival cordage.
