I am kind of a sucker for e-tools. They are the kind of thing that it seems like you ought to have in every vehicle you own and that can come in handy whenever you are out in the woods. The reality is that I rarely end up using them but I am always glad that I had them when needed.

I recently came across the new Folding Spade from Fox Knives USA. It packs small like most e-tools and features a shovel blade that locks at 90°, 135° and 180° to the handle. It also makes extensive use of polymer which keeps the weight fairly low for an e-tool.

ESEE Knives SHOT Show News

ESEE will be showing several new models at the SHOT Show. The new stainless models will be on hand including the new Stainless ESEE-3, Stainless ESEE-4, and Stainless Izula. They will also have their gorgeous Damascus Izulas in their booth. These should really turn some heads.

NavELite with HzO WaterBlock Technology

NavELite has announced an agreement with HzO Inc. to provide their WaterBlock technology for use in the NavELite wrist compass. WaterBlock technology is a microscopic film that is applied to the internal electric components of the compass. WaterBlock technology allowed the NavELite to function after submersion and even during submersion. It adds no weight and does not change the functionality or appearance of the compass.

I recently had the chance to review the NavELite wrist compass and found it to be excellent. The addition of WaterBlock should make it even better.

Hill People Gear Ute Internal Frame Backpack

Details are now finalized on the new Hill People Gear Ute Internal Frame Backpack. It will cost $395 and should be available shortly. You can find just about everything that you want to know about the Ute in this video that HPG recently shared.

It looks like a tremendous pack that should challenge the likes of Mystery Ranch and Kifaru in terms of quality, design, and features.

Compact Emergency Signal Mirror, Glass, 2”x2” from Battle Systems

The MPIL from Battle Systems, which we love, is growing into a very complete signal system. There are several new additions on the way (they are pretty slick, stay tuned) but one is available right now – the Compact Emergency Signal Mirror, Glass, 2”x2”.

The Compact Emergency Signal Mirror, Glass, 2”x2” will work in any kit but it has features that make it perfectly suited to work with the MPIL. It is 2″ x 2″ to match the size of the folded MPIL so it can be retained by elastic strap that comes with MPIL. The mirror is Velcro backed so that it can be securely retained in the upcoming MPIL pouch that is a collaboration between Battle Systems and TAREINCO or any other Velcro lined pouch.

In addition to the MPIL specific features, it has all of the features that you expect from a premium signal mirror, including glass construction and a retro-reflective aiming grid (allows the mirror to be aimed one handed). It also comes with a laminated instruction card.
