Getting What You Want Part 2: Ebay

This is the next installment in out series on how to beat panic buying. We call it Getting What You Want!

Ebay is always controversial among gun owners. Some claim that they are anti-gun. Some say that they just minimizing their liability by limited what can be listed on their site. I will leave it up to you to determine whether you want to support Ebay or not. Regardless of how you feel, it can be a good place to find things that are otherwise hard to find.

Don’t wait for auctions to end! Everyone is watching those and you probably don’t have the time or patience to sit around and wait. Some people have sniping (entering a bid at the last moment) down to a science but I just can’t spare the time. So, I tend to sort my searches on newly listed items and look for deals on “Buy It Now” type sales. This way you stand a chance of being the first one to see an item. You can save a search and check it a few times daily if you really need to find something. Consider using Ebay’s mobile app to stay connected.

I should pass on a word of caution. Ebay prohibits the selling of some items and during all of this panic, many sellers have been listing items that are prohibited. Educate yourself as to what is within the rules as Ebay lays them out or you may find yourself open to a scam.

If you stay within the rules and apply some strategy, you might just find what you need to finish your newly acquired implement of liberty on Ebay.

Getting What You Want Part 1: “In Stock” Threads

My inbox has been getting hammered with emails for the last month from people who are looking for magazines, bolt carrier groups, upper receivers, lower receivers, ammo, and other items that are in short supply right now. I am doing my best to keep up with the emails but the truth is, you have access to most of the same information that I do. So, in this series called Getting What You Want, I will pull back the curtain on what I do to find things that are in stock so that you stand a better chance of Getting What You Want.

If you can’t find enough PMAGs to keep your new AR well fed, can’t find a bolt carrier group to finish that new build, or can’t find an upper that doesn’t cost twice what it should… stay tuned.

One of the best places to find information about what is in stock and where is on internet gun forums. AR15.com and other gun forums have several active threads where users identify various vendors who have specific items in stock. These threads help people pool their research resources and cover more ground in the search for in stock parts.

Bolt Carrier Group Thread on AR15.com

Upper Receiver and Upper Receiver Parts Thread on AR15.com

AK Magazine Deals

These types of threads not limited to AR15.com and those listed here aren’t even the only ones on AR15.com. Many of the various gun boards have similar threads that can help you find what you are looking for or help others find what they are looking for during this time of panic buying.

There are several ways to monitor these threads so that you can be notified when something is posted. Some forums will let you subscribe to a thread with an instant email notification whenever something is posted. Some forums also have RSS feeds on various threads so you can add them to an RSS reader to receive nearly real time updates. You can also just do it the old fashioned way and just check it a few times a day.

If there is a thread that you are watching, feel free to list it in the comments below.

The Chair is Against the Wall Decal from OC Tactical

Chair Wall Decal

“It’s 11:59 on Radio Free America; this is Uncle Sam, with music, and the truth until dawn. Right now I’ve got a few words for some of our brothers and sisters in the occupied zone: the decal is against the gun case, the decal is against the gun case.”

The patches were so popular that OC Tactical came out with a decal version! You can now buy 4 packs of The Chair is Against the Wall at OC Tactical.

Don’t Patronize Me

2A Does Not Equal Hunting

I have written before about my frustration with the way the current conversation about the 2nd Amendment is muddied by words like “hunting” and “sporting.” We have all received letters from our Representatives that in one way or another attempts to placate us with assurances that they are supporters of our rights to keep and bear arms because, after all, “I’m a hunter myself.” The current discussion about the 2nd Amendment is rife with these sorts of patronizing statements.

Now, as if we haven’t had enough, the President wants you to know that he understands you. “Up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time,” he said. “And I have a profound respect for the traditions of hunting that trace back in this country for generations.”

Never were 30 more out of touch words uttered. I used to believe that statements like these that belie the true meaning and historical significance of the 2nd Amendment and replace it with hunting, which is increasingly less culturally significant, were ignorance. I now believe that it is a purposeful attempt to rewrite the history and context of the 2nd Amendment in the minds of Americans. It is a distraction and a deflection. If you say a lie often enough, it can become a form of the truth.

When a politician makes statements like this, they are patronizing you. They think they can assuage your fears by offering their weak, hollow, and transparent assurances that they are pro-2nd Amendment. The 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with hunting. Don’t buy the lie, don’t stop making your voice hear, don’t compromise, and do not accept these answers from your Representatives.
