Edge Out Project

The Edge Out Project is an initiative started by knife makers to “edge out” cancer by helping to fund the American Cancer Society. They have created a page where you can donate with all funds going directly to the American Cancer Society. In addition to the satisfaction of helping those touched by cancer, you can also receive entries into a raffle to receive some pretty incredible knives and other prizes.

In addition to donating at the project page, you can purchase an Edge Out Cancer t-shirt and patch from Ryan W. Knives for $20 and you will automatically receive 5 raffle entries.

See the Edge Out Project Facebook page for more details.

Halloran Knives STX-VE: Viking Edition

When I think of Halloran Knives, I usually think of compact self-defense blades but their latest design is a full-size, purebred fighter.

The STX-VE: Viking Edition is a new, stretched out version of their popular STX-T model. It has a similar double edged, American tanto blade shape but the length has been stretched. The STX-VE also benefits from the addition of small integral guard and a larger choil to go with it. The example shown is ground from 5/32″ thick S30V steel and features Halloran Knive’s typical textured micarta scales.

What a looker! Check out Halloran Knives.

Combative Edge Rebel

The Rebel, Combative Edge’s latest production fixed blade, will start shipping next week. This knife is a 10 3/16″ long slab of S30V and textured G-10 goodness. The full height flat ground blade has a distinctive harpoon shape and the handle has enough contours to orient the blade but not lock you into any one grip.

Kolbeson Leatherworks TDI LE Sheath

The Ka-Bar TDI is an excellent, low cost, defensive blade that benefits greatly from a quality sheath. The TDI LE Sheath from Kolbeson Leatherworks is the most recent TDI sheath option that I have come across. It is made from Kydex in the pancake style (2 pieces molded and riveted together) and has several eyelets for adjusting the ride height of the two included IWB soft loops. The soft loops are made from Brahma Webb Duroflex which is nylon webbing coated with PVC which is durable and has a leather-like appearance.

PHLster Fightworthy TDI Sheath Update

Kydex guru PHLster makes a sheath for the Ka-Bar TDI that is very popular. Demand for the sheath has outpaced his ability to produce them since their introduction. PHLster has been working to streamline production of the sheath in an effort to increase the rate at which they can be created. The good news is that they have succeeded.

The original sheath was foam pressed and had a curved shape to it that made it hand specific. The new version is now vacuum formed and has a flat shape that makes it ambidextrous and more user configurable. the result of these changes is a sheath that has the same level of quality but can be produced more easily. Many users are also reporting that the new flat shape is actually more comfortable too.
