Bastion Launches New Site and the Partizan Folding Knife is Now Available

Bastion’s new premium EDC gear website is now live at BastionGear.com. The new site puts their line of unique, custom every day carry items front and center. All my favorites are there including their carbon fiber combs and the excellent Carboneer which is one of my most indispensable pieces of daily use gear.

The new site is good looking, easy to navigate, and has a handful of new products, the most exciting of which is Bastion’s new Partizan Folding Knife. They showed this sleek gentleman’s tactical knife at Blade Show and have been teasing it on their social media channels since then. Now it is finally available. You can read our previous post for additional details.

Everything about the Partizan is built to exude class right down to the custom designed boxes that encase them when they arrive on your door step. The design is thin, lightweight, and svelte. The blade moves smoothly when opening and close the knife.

That Partizan is available in three models all of which feature a saber ground D2 steel blade with a mild recurve, spear point blade shape. Each of the three models has a different handle treatment: full titanium frame lock, carbon fiber scale with titanium frame lock, and G-10 scales over liner lock.

Hardpoint Equipment Manticuda Gen 2 (MG2)

It’s been a while since Hardpoint Equipment rolled out a new product but they did just that this week. The Manticuda Gen 2 knife is now available for pre-order at a reduced price.

The Manticuda Gen 2 is designed to be a knife with “no learning curve” according to Hardpoint Equipment. If you can draw a handgun, you can get this knife into the fight and have access to all it’s cutting and striking surfaces. The handle maximizes retention and allows the users to lock their wrist and hand into a familiar fist. While it is not a small knife, the skeletonized handle and large blade cutout ensure that it feels light and fast.

The Manticude Gen 2 is kind of like the bigger, meaner brother of a punch/push knife. You can read more about it and preorder yours at Hardpoint Equipment. These will never be priced lower than they are now and the first batch is already in heat treat, so they should be ready to ship soon.

How to Make a Kydex Knife Sheath the Gough Custom Way

Aaron Gough of Gough Custom recently posted a video about how he makes his kydex sheaths. The video is extremely educational for those interested in making their own sheaths. His mix of common and homemade kydex tools should serve as an inspiration to those who think you need a lot of specialized tools to get started.

Tease: PHLster TDI Fightworthy Sheath Improvements

PHLster is teasing some upcoming improvements to their TDI Fightworthy Sheath. The Ka-Bar TDI is an excellent, budget-friendly self-defense knife that happens to be saddled with a lousy sheath from the factory. PHLster’s previous iteration of the TDI Fightworthy Sheath was one of the best aftermarket sheath options out there for the TDI.

The new version will be available sometime this month and will offer several improvements over the previous iteration including:

  • Improved retention
  • Increased clearance for your hand when accessing the knife
  • Wider compatibility with belt and attachment hardware

Best of all, the new and improved sheath will sport a new, lower price. This sheath will be rolled out sometime in September 2016. Keep an eye on PHLster distributor Snake Hound Machine for details.

Work Sharp Combo Knife Sharpener

Work Sharp is known for their power sharpeners but they manufacture some useful manual sharpeners too. Their latest sharpener, the Combo Knife Sharpener, combines both powered and manual in the same tool.

The Work Sharp Combo Knife Sharpener features an abrasive belt-based, powered sharpener with angle guide much like their other powered sharpeners but it also features an angle guided ceramic hone. Both the powered and manual sharpener components have a fixed 25 degree sharpening angle. While this is Work Sharp’s first sharpener to include both powered and manual sharpening methods, it is also their simplest to use.

Unlike previous sharpeners that had adjustable angles and used progressively finer belts to hone the edge, the new Combo Knife Sharpener uses only a 120 grit belt and the honing is accomplished via the manual ceramics sharpener. There is no set up because there is only one sharpening angle which makes this the easiest to use Work Sharp yet and that is saying something because previous Work Sharp powered sharpeners are extremely easy to use.

It is also their most affordable powered sharpener. The MSRP is just under $60 and their sharpeners are usually easy to find well under MSRP. You can check out the new Combo Knife Sharpener on the Work Sharp website.
