Trijicon/Bobro Tall Quick Release Mount for Compact ACOGs

If you happen to like Trijicon’s line of compact ACOGs, you probably know that many of the previously available mounting solutions are less than ideal. The previously available mounting solutions were either bulkier and heavier than necessary or sat low enough that they caused more shadowing from the front sight base than some prefer or threw off the BDC calibration of ACOGs like the TA33. Thankfully, there is now a mount available from Trijicon that gives you the best of all worlds.

The Tall Quick Release Mount for Compact ACOGs (AC12027) is manufactured by Bobro Engineering for Trijicon. It is the same height as the original TA60 mount (1.660″ from top of rail to center of optic) that is provided with many of the compact ACOGs but it is considerably more compact and also offers Bobro’s excellent QD capability. Bobro’s ingenious mounting system is robust, repeats zero, and self-adjusts to most 1913 rails. This mount is exactly what I have been looking for and I have one on the way for my TA33.

Henry Holsters AIWB Foldover Holster

There is a new AIWB (appendix inside the waistband) holster on the market. Our friend and Hoosier Kydex bender extraordinaire, Henry Holsters, has created this new holster with a host of slick features.

Henry Holster AIWB Foldover

It looks like a simple foldover style holster because… well, it is. However, that simple appearance belays a very cool feature that is only apparent when you take a closer look. The holster has a sort of ramped protrusion on the back (the part against the wearer) that Henry Holsters calls a “Multi-angle Kick” that pushes the muzzle out slightly which in turn draws the grip in to improve concealment. The AIWB Foldover also features 2 flexible Pull-the-Dot snap belt loops and a large sweat guard that is cut to allow a full firing grip.

It is available for the Glock 17/22. Longer holsters tend to work bettet to anchor an AIWB holster and better with the Multi-angle Kick, so this same holster will be used for the Glock 19/23 and 26/27 as well.

Chiappa LITTLE BADGER

Most Chiappa products don’t really interest me but I am a sucker for survival rifles like the Chiappa LITTLE BADGER. The LITTLE BADGER reminds me of the now discontinued and heavily collectable M6 survival rifles that Springfield Armory used to import except the LITTLE BADGER is even more spartan in its design.

Chiappa-Little-Badger

The LITTLE BADGER comes with a halfway decent set of adjustable iron sights. In addition to the sights, you can mount optics to the “handguard” which is little more than 4 rails at the breech end of the barrel. It has a very minimalist wire stock and the entire rifle folds down to a roughly 16.5″ long package. The barrel is threaded for suppressor use. It is fairly light but still heavier than I would expect at 3.5 pounds according to the Chiappa website.

Minimalist .22LR rifles that are geared toward the survival market draw me like a moth to flame. The LITTLE BADGER, with it’s sub-$170 retail price, is affordable enough that it might not hurt too badly if I do get sucked in.

Turn an End Plate into a Sling Adapter

Here is a little Tactical Handyman project for your weekend courtesy of Echo Nine Three. If you have a spare AR-15 receiver end plate laying around (who doesn’t?), you can turn it into a sling adaptor. Gentlemen, start your Dremels!

Smarter Every Day Shoots an AK Underwater… Again!

smartereverydayHave you subscribed to Smarter Every Day yet? You should! I recently posted about part 1 of this video and now the second part is available.

Watch as Destin and crew shoot an AK underwater and capture it all on high speed cameras. The footage at the 4:30 mark is stunningly beautiful and Destin’s break down of the various stages of gas escaping the barrel is absolutely fascinating. I refuse to learn any science unless it has AKs and high speed video from now on.
