CANIS Design Group – MOE Handguard Kits for the VEPR

CANIS VEPR MOE 2

CANIS Design Group is working to bring the Magpul MOE Hand Guards to the VEPR. They will be offering kits that will allow VEPR owners to mount the MOE hand guards in place of the original front handguard and gas tube cover. Perhaps more importantly, this will bring an entirely new set of sling mount, vertical grip, hand stop, and light mount options to the VEPR.

The handguards will mount without modification to the host rifle though the handguards themselves are modified. They mount via the factory screw and 2 provided retainer plates.

RETA Kydex M&P 15-22 Mag Holders

The S&W M&P 15-22 is pretty much the best thing going when it comes to rimfire training carbines. One of the best things about it is that it has affordable, easy to load, and reliable magazines. Unfortunately, due to the feed tower design of the magazines they don’t always fit well in the same mag pouches you use for your centerfire carbine.

Enter the RETA Kydex M&P 15-22 Kydex Mag Holders.  They are 2 piece, “pancake” style mag holders that ride close to the belt. It is nice to see serious support gear for a rimfire carbine that is capable of serious training.

Apex Tactical Specialties Developing Glock Safety Plunger

apex tactical specThe safety plunger is a key spot for those who are trying to improve their Glock’s trigger. Careful rounding and polishing of the plunger can make a big difference in how the trigger feels without a negative effect on reliability unlike some trigger mods like lightening the striker or springs which can negatively effect reliability. This is not a secret yet there haven’t been very many improved safety plungers on the market.

Thankfully, it looks like Apex Tactical Specialties is stepping in to fill that gap. They are currently beta testing an improved safety plunger that is polished and domed in shape (though not as domed as some competition safety plungers to ensure solid contact between it and the trigger bar). It is made from heat treated 440C steel which hardened to 52-56 Rc for durability (that is the same hardness as the OEM part). They state that the new Safety Plunger will retail for less than $20.

I have no word on availability yet. Check out Apex Tactical Specialties.

IWC QD End Plate RL

I mentioned last month that my favorite rear sling mount, the Impact Weapons Components QD End Plate RL, was set to to receive a new finish. The good news is that the new darker black end plates are now available. The best news is that the dark black is achieved via Melonite processing which means they will not only be dark black in color but extremely corrosion resistant.

Check out the QD End Plate RL at IWC and remember to use the discount code “triggerjerk” to receive 5% off.

INFORCE WMLX – 500 Lumens

If you like the INFORCE WML as much as I do, this is sure to get your morning off on the right foot. INFORCE will be bringing a 500 lumen version called the WMLX to market soon.

image005There hasn’t been an official announcement from INFORCE yet but a quick search reveals that the WMLX is the worst kept secret ever. It is already listed at many retailers including MidwayUSA which lists an arrival date of March 28th though their arrival dates are notoriously arbitrary.

Judging by the only tiny picture that I could locate, the most notable change appears to be a longer body which is likely necessary for the WMLX to be able to accept a 2nd CR123 battery. It also sounds like the switch will be different from current WML models. I will update you as I find more information and better pictures.

Check out the INFORCE website while you wait for more news of the WMLX.

Update: I now have improved images of the WMLX and confirmation that it does take 2CR123 batteries. The switch functionality also sounds like it has been improved to be switchable from either momentary only to constant. This looks like a very solid next step in the WML evolution.
