Operator Survival Tool 2.0

If you have a battery storage stock or grip and you don’t keep batteries in the compartment, this could be for you. The Operator Survival Tool 2.0 (OST 2.0) consists of a small knife sharpener, small ferro rod, an AR-15 multi-tool/scraper, and a small plastic container, all of which is the same size as two CR123 batteries. That means the entire kit fits most battery storage compartments.

The scraper/multi-tool is made from D2 tool steel. It has shaped edges that allow to scrape the contours of an AR-15 bolt tail, behind the lugs, and down inside the carrier along with other functions like driving screws and prying. The container can also be used as a handle for the ferro rod or sharpener which is nice considering how difficult it can be to use small sharpeners and fire starters.

Forward Controls Design EMR-A Ambidextrous Magazine Release for AR-15s

Forward Controls Design will be releasing their EMR-A (Enhanced Magazine Release – Ambidextrous) soon and functional prototypes are already out in the wild making an appearance at Cola Warrior West III.

The EMR-A will be available with 2 lever options: standard and extended. The images that accompany this post show a prototype of the standard lever. The extended paddle will be just .09″ longer but because of how the assembly levers on the receiver itself, this little bit of extra length results in a lot of additional leverage. As is typical for Forward Controls Design, great care has gone into the shape of the lever with its shallow “V’ shape and serrations.

The EMR-A will also come with FCD’s new extra power magazine release spring. This spring offers 60% more resistance than the standard spring to prevent accidental activation of the magazine release. FCD has stated that their design for the EMR-A is not prone to accidental activation but they feel that the stock spring is underpowered. The spring is available for purchase separately.

You can expect the EMR-A to be available in a number of different bundles with either lever and the option to add one of Forward Controls Design’s EMR and EMR-C magazine release buttons. Stay tuned for pricing and availability information.

Magpul PMAG Quad Stack… It Just Wasn’t Meant to Be

Magpul has been profiling various important magazines that have shaped the development of the PMAG on their Facebook page as part of the recognition of the venerable polymer magazine’s 10th year in production. Today, they showed a picture of their Quad Stack prototype magazine that is sure to make shooter’s hearts race just a little.

Those of you who have been following PMAGs from the start will know that this quad stack mag was no secret and many had their fingers crossed that Magpul would be able to figure out how to bring it to market. The caption posted with today’s picture may be the final nail in the coffin for those of you still holding out hope for a Quad Stack PMAG – at least we have the D60!

Quad Mag Prototype, 60-Round Capacity 2009
Shortly after the introduction of the original PMAG, Magpul began working on increased capacity solutions. The “Quad” or “Coffin” mag concept never delivered the reliability in rough handling and adverse conditions that we require from our magazine products, and so the design never made it into production. Lessons learned during this program eventually fed into the D-60 program. #MAGPUL #PMAG10YEARS #MAGMONDAY #PMAG
