5PK – Fifth Pocket Knife

I carry a fixed blade knife, like the excellent Amtac Blades Northman, daily. I am comfortable doing this and I live in a place where it isn’t at all unusual to see someone with a knife on their belt (though mine is concealed). However, I also acknowledge that there are settings in which it would be strange to use a somewhat large knife (large relative to most people’s perception) to trim a string. It can be a good idea to carry something smaller and more approachable for common tasks… something like the 5PK Fifth Pocket Knife.

The Fifth Pocket Knife is small enough and typically brightly colored enough that it will not register as “scary” to just about anyone. These machined aluminum utility blade holders slide easily into your fifth pocket (hence the name) and accept standard utility blades so you don’t have to worry about resharpening.

The Fifth Pocket Knife weighs a scant 15 grams. It is available in a variety of colors and it is made right here in the USA.

Review: Streamlight Macrostream

It’s no secret that I like the Streamlight Microstream USB… a lot. I’ve written about it here and posted about it on our social media numerous times. Based on my experience with the Microstream, I had to try the Macrostream as soon as it came out so I purchased one immediately. I have now been using it for more than a year and I’ve learned some things.

The Macrostream is functionally similar to the Microstream USB. It has a similar bidirectional clip (which is truly useful), it has the same easy-to-live-with charging setup, and it has the same simple user interface. It differs in that it is larger due to its larger battery, has twice the output at 500 lumens, and boasts longer runtimes. It also has a more flush tail switch that feels considerably less tactile than the Microstream.

The Macrostream is a great light on its own but I can’t help but still feel that the Microstream is a slightly better light for my purposes. The Macrostream’s less positive, flush tail switch makes operating the light just a bit more fidgety (not for actually activating it but for switching modes) and its larger size makes the light just a bit less convenient. However, none of these issues are insurmountable, especially if you just need the extra output.

You can’t really go wrong with either or both.

Tyrant Designs CNC Launches Presale for TDC 001 and 002 Knives

Tyrant Designs CNC (TDC) has taken the wraps off the knives that they teased earlier. The new TDC 001 and TDC 002 knives are now available for presale.

These knives feature 3″ D2 steel blades with American tanto blade shapes. TDC touts that they will lock up via beefy liner locks, an area they paid special attention to. The blades ride on ball bearings in the pivot which should make them easy to deploy via thumb studs. Both knives feature deep carry pocket clips.

While both the 001 and 002 are similar, there are some differences in overall shape. Both are clearly fluent in the TDC design language and will make a great companion to their firearm parts.

Sneak Peek: PocketUp SleeveWrap Pocket System

PocketUp will introduce its SleeveWrap Pocket System in early 2022 (February). This system of packs and pouches offers some key benefits to the potential end-user including extremely easy installation of accessory pouches on a host backpack and a completely slick appearance when no accessory pouches are installed.

The pouches install via hook and loop wings under a standardized flap that is integrated into the pack. There are no buckles or straps involved at all. Installation takes seconds.

You can expect to see SleeveWrap added to several PocketUp packs as an option along with several sizes or pouches so you can mix and match to meet your needs.
