Rig Light Jacket from Grey Ghost Gear and Beyond Clothing

The new Rig Light Jacket is the result of a collaboration between Beyond Clothing and Grey Ghost Gear. The jacket is constructed from Beyond’s 4-way stretch woven fabric to have the durability of a softshell and lighter weight of a midlayer jacket.

The Rig Light Jacket also has a hideaway hood that packs into the collar. It has a zippered chest pocket, zippered hand warmer pockets, and a zippered pocket on each upper arm. The upper arm also has 4×7″ loop material patches on both sides for displaying patches and ID.

SIG SB15 Stabilizing Brace to be Available in Kit Form Only?

Osage County Guns is reporting via their Facebook page and blog that they have been informed by Sig Sauer that the SB15 Stabilizing Brace will only be available in kit form soon. The kit will include the SB15, buffer tube, buffer, recoil spring, and locking nut and the MSRP will $239-$249. It should be noted that Osage County Guns is one of the most prolific retailers of these braces.

Sig is the only game in town when it comes to these braces but there are already other devices out there lining up to compete with the SB15. This seems like it could be a very unpopular move, especially since Sig’s current buffer tube is light years behind those offered by KAK, MI, Exos Defense, Phase 5, and others. I own two SB15s and probably wouldn’t have purchased them if it meant I had to pay for a bunch of other stuff (everything but the SB15 itself) that I won’t use.

I guess I will be surprised if, when the dust settles, the SB15 is actually discontinued as a stand-alone product but you never know.

AR Pistol JTT IG 1

Update: I have been told by a few friends of JTT (and esteemed commenters below) that the kit will ship with a Phase 5 buffer tube. That is good news given that Phase 5 has a well proven track record with AR pistols. As good as their buffer tubes are, I will still miss being able to purchase the SB15 separately and choosing my own buffer tube and other components.

Low-Pro Products M1A / M14 Top Extended Rail 15″

The latest iteration of the Low-Pro Product’s extended top rail for the M1A/M14 is now available. The M1A / M14 Top Extended Rail 15″ are designed to be a direct replacement for the short 4″ forward rail that is found on the M1A Scout Rifles or you can modify your top handguard to allow it to mount on a standard M1A with standard barrel profile (not for use with a heavy barrel).

The rail provides a full 15″ of mounting space. It rums from the barrel clamp all the way back to the stripper clip guide where it securely mounts. This provides plenty of space to mount the optic of your choice regardless of eye relief.

The rail is milled down the center so that the iron sights are still usable. It is machined from 6061-T6 Aluminum and hard anodized. Check out the M1A / M14 Top Extended Rail 15″ at Low-Pro Products

FHF Gear Kestrel Pouch

Kestrel Wind Meters do more than just measure wind speed these days. Their on board ballistic computing makes them invaluable in the field whether you are a hunter or precision shooter.

FHF Gear has come up with a pouch that will help protect and keep your Kestrel close at hand. The pouch is MOLLE compatible or it can be used with their Ladder Panel to be attached to their excellent Bino Harness. This item hasn’t entered production yet but I suspect there are myriad hunters and precision shooters who would get in line for a dedicated Kestrel pouch.

BOgear WTF

Brisbane, Australia based BOgear makes bags, packs, and gear that blur the lines between tactical gear, lifestyle gear, and outdoor gear. They make a lot of very handsome, functional gear but their WTF bags stand out the most.

WTF-Dark-Camo_IG

BOgear’s WTF bags start on the cutting room floor so to speak. They offer a wide variety of fabric, webbing, and stitching colors for the end user to choose from in their regular line of gear so, as you can imagine, they end up with many different colors of scrap material. These scraps are then sorted into bins for dark colors, camo, and bright colors. The bins can be raided when an order for a smaller piece of gear comes in or they can serve as a jumping off point for a nearly random, completely custom WTF creation. It is a very efficient and very fun way to reduce waste.

If you order a custom WTF bag, you can have some control over the end product via several broad color palette choices or, if you are feeling adventurous, you can choose to have no control at all! You have the following choices for the exterior fabric of the bag (from the BOgear website):

WTF Anything
Anything goes. We can mix in bright colours, dark colours, or camo patterns. For clarification, we classify bright colours to include: Red, Royal Blue, Fluoro Orange, Fluoro Yellow, White, and so forth. These are generally colours which could be described as bright, happy, or punchy! This style of bag results in complete randomness, as the sky is the limit for our colour choices!

WTF Camo Only
Camo can only be used. We mix in any of the available camo colours, which sometimes can include colours no longer available for a full bag (we have scrap to do panels, but not enough to do a whole bag). For example camo patterns include: USA Woodlands, USA Desert, Multicam, Australian Camo, Australian Desert Camo, UCP, or random variants which we have lying around.

WTF Dark Only
We only use darker colours. We mix them all together but the bag generally has a darker or more subdued feel to it. The above photo is a good example of this colouring. Colours used include: Black, grey, Forest green, Coyote, Navy Blue, and so forth. This style of bag really benefits from some punchy webbing colours to allow the design to pop!

And the following choices for the webbing:

WTF Anything
This is the same concept as the exterior fabric. We have free range to the webbing colours, and can mix in any of our available webbing. The above photo uses this webbing choice, and although we do use a single line of punchy purple, doesn’t detract from the overall “darker” aesthetic of the bag.

WTF Bright Only
This option uses all the bright webbing we have in stock. It lifts the bag, and gives it a punchy look regardless of what exterior fabric you chose. We mix and match between our brighter colours including: Pink, Purple, Fluoro Orange, Fluoro Lime, and so forth.

The results are always very interesting and sometimes they are downright amazing. BOgear is reducing waste, conducting smart business practices, and making amazing gear just by giving a little extra thought to a common problem that all sew shops face. Kudos to them.
