Valhalla Tactical Prototype WML Switch

Valhalla Tactical has let the cat out of the bag on a very interesting new weapon mounted light switch that they are developing. The switch functions like a typical tailcap in that it can be depressed but it can also be activated from almost any direction like a joystick.

The following quote was taken from their Instagram feed where there is a lot of additional information and video of the new switch:

Reinventing remote tape switches!!?

Technically this is more of a clicky on steroid, but it was designed to function as a tape switches / pressure pads without their typical issues. Fundamentally, it works like a joy stick: no matter what direction you push, it will activate the light. So it has the same sensitivity and ease of use of a tape switch, but without the cable management headache.

It is also far more future proof then current tape switches. Most tape switches today can only handle around ~2 Amps of current; in fact many tail caps are only rated for 3 Amps. That translates to ~1,600 to maximum 2,000 lumen of light output – and they become the bottleneck when developing more powerful lights. Instead, this switch is rated for *10 Amps* and can easily handle 5,000+ lumen light heads in the future.

This switch is also ambi-friendly as you can activate it with both hands, regardless of which side you mount the light. Your thumb or arch naturally rest by the switch, and a very simple nudge from any direction will activate it.

Oh it is also FAR cheaper than the cost of replacement tail caps + remote tape switch.

It does, however, have the same drawback of a tape switch (and possibly more so due to the much higher sensitivity) – if you have not trained well, accidental activation can happen. So if you are airsoft ninja’ing, this switch might not be for you. Also just like pressure pads, you need to quarter-turn the tail cap to deactivate the switch for transportation. It could turn itself on inside a soft case, just like some pressure pads will.

So who is this for? We think if you want a simple, self-contained MLOK light that has all the benefit and ease of use of a pressure pad, this is for you. Also as a bedside gun or any high-stress situation where you NEED the light to turn on without thinking about it. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve seen people fumble and can’t find their clicky during simple trainings. Now substitute that with a home invasion. The time you spent finding your recessed clicky could mean life and death.

Sneak Peek: Valhalla Tactical “Hanger” Optic Mount

Valhalla Tactical’s “Hanger” offset optic mount represents a very clever approach to offset optics. These replace a half a ring on popular scope mounts with a mounting ring that can support various mounting plates. This allows the user to attach an offset MRDS directly to their existing scope mount.

While other similar ring mounts have been available, the Hanger is unique in how it orients the optic for a lower profile and the sheer variety of mounting plates (and therefore optic combinations) that will be available. The orientation of the optic looks strange at first but it keeps the offset optic tucked in closer to the host optic, provides the same height over bore as the host optic, and requires very little cant to get on the offset optic. The user simply switches the windage and elevation adjustments to zero the offset optic in this orientation.

Valhalla Tactical is working on these for a number of popular mounts. The first Hangers will be available for the Aero Precision line of mounts with ADM, Larue Tactical, and possibly others to follow.

Valhalla Tactical Baldr System

Valhalla Tactical’s Baldr System is a series of modular weapon light bodies and mounting plates with VERY broad compatibility across many of the current best weapon lights on the market.

They offer Baldr light bodies that can mate with Surefire M600 and M300 heads, Nitecore P10GT heads, and Streamlight HL-X heads. The light bodies accept either a single, protected 18350 in the case of heads that would normally be run on 6V (two cells) or a single CR123A for lights like the M300 that normally runs on a single CR123A. The advantage to these battery configurations is that the light bodies can be made extremely compact and be made to sit very near the rail while still using a battery capable of providing full output and usable runtime. All of the light bodies are designed to accept Surefire E-series/Scout series tailcaps.

There are a variety of mounts available based on the specific needs and any potential clearances that the end-user may need to accommodate. Each mount has built-in adjustability so the user can fine-tune the fit to their setup. Valhalla Tactical describes the mount options:

  • Type-0: Puts the light body closest to your rail.  In most cases you must place your light head in FRONT of the rail for it to clear.  Good solution when rail space is limited and barrel protrudes reasonably ahead of your rail.  Not optimal if muzzle is also at the end of rail – may cause interference especially with suppressor use.
  • Type-1: Provides a ~10° tilt so that smaller LED heads (Surefire Scout, Nitecore P10, etc) can recess behind the end of rail.  Good for ensuring unfeathered access for suppressor mounting / dismounting.
  • Type-2: Same with Type-1 except provides ~15° tilt for slightly bigger LED heads such as Modlite.
  • Type-4: Same with Type-1 except provides ~30° of tilt for more extreme configurations, for example recessing Streamlite HL-X heads or using Scouts with PEQ-15.

The Baldr System components are in production and available for preorder now.
